Default Could Dellin Betances Finally Live Up To His Potential?

It seems as though he has been working on a new pitch which he seems to be finding success with. So could this be the year Betances has himself a nice year.? The only reason I ask is a little over a year ago, when I started my interest in the hobby, he was definitely a top prospect with plenty potential, but fell off the map. Now it seems that he is regaining his confidence.

Yankees spring training: Dellin Betances' new pitch that might get him to the majors | NJ.com

His delivery/mechanics have also changed quite a bit.

If his potential has always been a middle relief pitcher, Yes.

Better than shagging flyballs in rookie ball I suppose.

Little over a month into the season. Walks seem to be high but he's 3rd on the Yankees squad in strikeouts which I think is interesting.

If they don't eventually move him to a closer role, he could be a decent trade chip.

Thoughts?

I watched him the last couple weeks and his breaking ball(s) are knee-buckling, in addition to his +fastball. I had no idea he was 7' 9" either. The Yanks would be stupid not to develop him into their closer over the next year or two. This is coming from a Sox fan.

My sentiments as well. He is a giant with heat and a nasty breaking ball. If he can get his control down, I wouldn't want to face him late in the game.

OK, maybe not 7' 9", but definitely 6' 6" plus/minus 15".

It seems he hasn't been on in months. If I remember right, he was big into Betances.

I'd assume if Robertson goes down, Betances may be closing games down for the Yankees...?

I still don't love his delivery but he is pitching great. Not living up to his true ceiling, but excelling at a more realistic role. The Yankees don't have very many starters in the minors but they have some nice power arms in AAA to go along with Betances.

All I know is he shut the Mets down when he came in relief. I think he finally found is calling in the back of the bullpen. His stuff was nasty.

I have the pleasure of knowing dellin from High School. Geez. This kid is 6'8 with a mid to high 90's fast ball and some sick stuff. he is very humble and never forgets where he came from. I'm glad he is living out his dream =)

His potential was as a starter, so no I do not see him living up t that. He could be a very effective relief pitcher though.

I don't know. Mid 90's fast ball with awesome off speed stuff. I think if he can build his confidence in the bullpen, he could be a decent starter.

He had great movement yesterday. Some pirates ducked thinking the ball was close and ended up being strikes.

Very nice

I have a pretty decent Betances collection http://s688.photobucket.com/user/jjh...s%20Collection
Glad to see he has finally matured. I feel he should be closing and Robertson should stay in the set up role that he was good in. He blew his second save today by the way. Gave up 4 runs. Oh and Betances pitched 2 innings and struck out 5..just saying

His potential was as a starter so he definitely hasn't lived up to his potential but he could end up being a good quality reliever.
