2024 SB run was extremely impressive… the main thing was the defense was elite and mahomes/rice/kelce was reliable ….like Mahomes said, each week they can beat anyone but also lose to anyone …their 3rd down defense is really bad ..if they can find ways to improve that, they have a chance ..AFC is wide open ..I think the best team is patriots and rams still ..but the gap is not that big

57.2 Million people watched the Chiefs vs Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

57.2 Million!

To put that in perspective:

Game 7 2025 NBA Finals: 16.4 Million

Game 7 of the 2025 World Series (One of the the best ever played): 27.3 Million.

We are truly living in the Golden Era of NFL the way NBA saw it in the 90s and MLB in the 50s. Collect accordingly.

Yep, Cowboys are clearly still ‘Merica’s team.

Those ratings are that high because the rest of our cultural touchstones are trash. The golden era of the NFL was 2005-2015 (or 2010-2020), IMO.

No one watches traditional broadcast episodic weekly shows TOGETHER. People just stream and watch when they can.

No one goes to the theater to experience a movie TOGETHER anymore. A movie may go to the silverscreen for 2 weeks, then it's on Disney+.

The average American cannot invest in paying attention to 162 days of MLB baseball, due to the day-to-day chaos of modern-day family life; therefore, no one watches any of it.

The NBA? When you have such a discrepancy in the effort of a playoff game vs. a regular season game (plus, the stars sit way too often) the American public catches on to your racket and stops watching. I don't begin watching the NBA until the 2nd round of the playoffs.

The NFL succeeds for multiple reasons:

1) Each game in the NFL is essentially a playoff game. An MLB team must win 11 or 13 games (depending on whether they were a Wild Card team) to win the World Series; the NBA - 16. And that's the minimum number of games you'd play. Most playoffs are anywhere from 20-26 games long.

2) It's essentially an American-only sport. I'm not saying whether that's good or bad, but it is true and relevant.

3) Perhaps most importantly - it's the last American cultural institution that must be watched and enjoyed TOGETHER. Everything other mode of cultural entertainment has been fractioned off, where we consume it on our own time. Not sports. And that is why sports, and the NFL specifically, have played such a pivotal role in our society, as all the other institutions have shriveled and died.

Default Patrick Mahomes Prices

I could understand why some people would prefer around 2010-2020 as their favorite era of NFL....

It was the most overinflated era of passing in NFL history. So if you're not a big fan of defense, it was great. 2015 and 2016 were insane.

Sorry tjmeister but:

Brady, manning,Brees, Rodgers, Ben with “he got jacked up” highlight reel hits. That was the golden age of football.

McDonald’s has higher revenue than in the 80s. Is McDonalds food better today than the 80s? No. It is inferior.

You have a source for that chart? Not because I want to fact check you but because that pic is blurry.

As I and others have stated. The Golden Era of quarterbacks. I don't think we are ever going to see that collection of HOFers and inner circle HOFers all playing together.

I think the biggest two drivers for the ratings success for the NFL is game scarcity and gambling. They feed into each other. It is easy to commit to watching a game, there is only one per week per team. You can just skip 4-5 days a week. Gameday feels like an event. The other sports have multiple games everyday. The event and game scarcity of the NFL drives more gambling/talk/hype on each game. NFL really takes all the sports oxygen when in season. I know that really bugs big fans of the other sports. All talk radio, pods, espn is all day NFL talk.

The rules are more lenient now, I don't get the point. The QB play was tremendously better overall. It's odd to cite this in a Mahomes thread as well considering he is who is because of this trend.

There's a few very important games for the Chiefs coming up. Some of their competition for a wild card spot will be eating each other up.
Ravens vs Steelers, who are both 6-6. Chiefs have the tie-breaker against the Ravens, but if Baltimore wins the division it won't matter. They do have a tougher remaining schedule than the Steelers, who aren't looking good at all. Not sure which is better for us as to who loses.
Then there's the Colts vs Jags, who are both 8-4. The Colts remaining schedule is far more difficult than the Jags, plus the Chiefs have the tie-breaker against them and the Jags have it against the Chiefs, so I am hoping that Indy loses that one. They will be playing each other again in a few weeks.
Not sure about the Bills vs Bengals... I've never in my life rooted for Buffalo and I'm not about to start now but they are two games up on the Chiefs and have the tie-breaker, so I don't think there's much of a chance of us catching up to them anyway, and if the Bengals lose it will be next to impossible for them to win the division and they will stay well behind the Chiefs, although they do have an easy remaining schedule.
I'm no fan of the Eagles but I will definitely be rooting for them against the Chargers.
If the Chiefs don't beat the Texans, then none of this will probably matter anyway...

had a cool moment at a show today - I own the card below and saw another copy reasonably priced and it turned out to be the #1 also. So now I just need the 50/50 and I'll own the #1/15/50 of this card. (Also these oranges look like golds) way sharped in person.

My family of 4, kids are 9 and 8 have never watched any major network show at all. Disneys movies here and there and Cincy Bengal games(kids dont give a crap but my wifes family is from Cincy). Im a NYer and die hard Yankee fan but even ditched mlb sub as games against Braves are blacked out even though I live 4 fn hours away in Bluffton, South Carolina. All Braves games are blacked out....f them. And now I need Amazon Prime as Yanks friday games are on most weeks. F u MLB.

The results of the earlier games today. How do those affect playoff chances?
