And yes, I'd say it is easier for a 4th year pro to learn a new offense rather than a kid out of college. But you're not taking into account their salaries, which give the rookie a huge advantage because lower salary = more time/patience. If you draft a college kid, you're giving that kid at least 2 training camps and 2 full seasons to learn the ropes, make mistakes, and show improvement (maybe 3 training camps and 3 seasons depending on the growth shown). Fields basically needs to master a new offense in a single training camp otherwise he's not getting paid and he's probably looking for a new home. That's why I give the learning advantage to the rookie. If you give 3 training camps and 3 full seasons to Fields to learn a new offense, then yeah, I'd give Fields the advantage. But that isn't realistic since Fields is gonna want to get paid before that. Now I can see the Bears not wanting to wait 3 years before they're competitive so if they stay with Fields, I hope he can learn the offense quickly and the Bears give him a big pay day because that means he played amazing and the Bears at least made the playoffs.

Fun fact: Justin Fields has replaced Mitch Trubisky twice.

Has been anything since year 3 in the league?
He's still the same guy who can't run a standard offense at anything of the efficiency of a starting quarterback. I swear beyond being forced to take a pay cut he should become a Taysom Hill or Randal-El that's his skillset. Last edited by Retired hobbist; 11-14-2025 at 04:21 AM. |

He'll get it together next year, just you see.
I think it's pretty incredible a starting QB in the NFL in 2025 has 4 games in which he threw for under 100 yards, and another where he just barely got over 100 in 116.
