Exclamation New auction platform - SNYPE - ( Probstein )

Hello folks,

Big news: Probstein is opening its brand new auction platform in November.

They are leaving eBay as of October 23.
Pros: Better offers, reduced fees, and more shipping options.
Cons: As we all know, Probstein isn’t the most trusted seller in the hobby due to past shill bidding concerns.

How original. They are CLLCT versus NASDAQ: CLCT (Collectors Universe AKA PSA).

Remember that when trying to consign with them.

You'd have to be nuts to consign with Probstein.....they're probably not even in the top five consignment companies in terms of quality/customer service.

I've never consigned anything, but as a buyer, DCSports is probably the best in my book.

Just FYI - I was saying it as an overall warning, not you specifically.

They're going to lose a ton of eyeballs on their auctions.

It’s just like regular Probstein, but without all those lame eBay buyer protections!

I actively avoid any listings from Probstein, so I'm fine with this

Exactly what I was thinking. They must have been getting burned by the eBay authentication program and don't want the hassle. If their customer service was horrible under eBay, imagine how bad it'll be when there's even less accountability. It might be Fanatics level bad!

This x2. Love to see them gone from ebay. They can shill it up somewhere else now and I never have to see it.

its hilarious to me that there are people that think Ricky himself
is sitting there bidding up consignment listings.

I've purchased a few items, and the ending auction price was reasonable. Cards always arrived quickly and were packaged well. It's big business for them and a lot to risk for them to do it themselves. If shilling is going on, it's probably the people who consigned items through him.

Probstein’s problems started simply because he grew and with more employees and more auctions, mistakes will happen. But overall, he has always stood behind his auctions, admits mistakes, and works to remedy them. He built an empire and now he’s trying to get off the eBay teat. I say good for him and I hope he succeeds because I stopped selling cards on eBay years ago.

Is it Opposite Day? Guy relists every single rejected eBay AG card in the Trading Card Lots category just to avoid authentication. And that’s just the most recent sleazy activity in a career built on sleaze.

I had 152 graded vintage BB cards, 1948-1960. I began selling on eBay. I ended up paying 13.25% on each card sold. Please note that eBay also charges 13.25% on sales tax and shipping costs, plus an additional 40 cents per card. All told, it really amounts to about 14%. I've been aware of Probstein since 2020 and never gave him a second thought until I read an article about his fees. Given that he sells on eBay, I was interested and had about 36 cards left, most with an average auction price of over $ 1,000. The fee was only 5% for cards above $1K. I let his company sell the remainder of my cards and saved about $6K. My only issue with them is that they don't give you a timeline for payment. I had to send them emails reminding them of payment, and to their credit, I received payment the next day. Now that they are moving from eBay to their own auction site, I am going to consign my last eight cards (worth $ 23,000) to 4 Sharp Corners—another eBay partner with the same fee arrangement.

I don't think I agree. eBay charges you about 14%, Fanatics charges the buyer 20%, and many other large auction houses charge the buyer. Charging the buyer affects the hammer price. The key to his success is to keep his fees low and to retain the 161,000 followers he has.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but he has sold over 5.9 million items. I personally have saved thousands due to his low fees.

Just out of curiosity, are you the same Bosoxfan who sells raw cards on the Beckett marketplace?

Those buyer protections reduce fraud. They are consumer-oriented, not seller-oriented and that's a good thing with all the fraud with collectables these days.

How do they get burned with the eBay authentication program? Collectible cards valued at over $250 must undergo an authentication process. Just about all of them are graded. What's wrong with that? It protects buyers and sellers. Probstein takes in consignments. I doubt Probstein is making counterfeit cards in his basement. The only thing wrong with the authenticity guarantee is that it takes longer to get your card if you're a buyer and longer to get paid if you're a seller.

I have never had a problem with a Probstein auction.
