The Knicks had only two winning seasons in the 20 seasons preceding Thibs. He helped turn them into a title contender in just a few years, yet he lost his job. That seems just about right for the Knicks.

(Looks at what happened to the Bulls and Wolves)

Yeah, let's fire Thibs.

Thibs is a good coach but if you want to win the title, Thibs is not the guy. Kinda like Mark Jackson when he was the HC of the Warriors. Couldn't win it until Steve Kerr took over.

Arguably, his biggest mistake was being on the wrong end of the Pacers these past 2 years.

The team overperformed. And of course NY got overhyped and overdisappointed.

Thibs did great with the level of talent he had to work with.

Not surprised at all. It started with the Bucks firing a coach that was 2nd place in the standing. It all spiraled down to former Suns and Nuggets coach. I’m shocked Heat still has their coach after getting destroyed in the playoffs. The only safe coach is the newly hired Jazz coach.

This is ridiculous and reminds me of when my Bucks fired Bud.

It's win-it-all or die in today's game.

Twitter is saying it was either coach or some players… so they chose players even after the success

I’ll be curious what else comes out

3 teams that all need to make trades should get together:

76ers trade: PG, Oubre [$8m expiring], #3 pick, #35 pick, and future 1st
Knicks: get the above, send KAT, OG, and a 2026 1st rounder [they have 2] to
Bucks: send Yanis and a salary-dump [PatCon?] to PHL, get #35 also.

2 teams rebuild on the fly, one shoves all-in.

This also allows the NYK to re-up Bridges, without entering the hard cap of the 2nd apron when he gets his $44m a year new deal.

NYK can't ask for an easier post-season than they just had. They can't risk losing Bridges for free. They've topped out. They get high picks from Philly, incl possibly the unprotected Clips 2028 pick which could be quite valuable.

MIL treads water for a year, gets their own 2026 pick, Lillard comes back, gets two really good players and another 1st rounder and rebuilds without tanking. Otherwise they are also going nowhere with 31yr Giannis and....not much.

Bucks would laugh and laugh

And then laugh again

And then a few more times

The knock in the past is that he grinds a small rotation down to dust with heavy minutes. He at least finally started expanding the rotation for a little bit in the playoffs. On the plus side—the guy wins, and the Knicks aren’t in a position to move on from a winning coach.

Ring Culture strikes again!

The Knicks [essentially] thinking they're a coach away is hilarious.

Knicks fan here, I did not want to lose Thibs.

But at the same time, it’s crazy that he didn’t experiment more during the season with different combinations. And that’s to say nothing about how long he kept starters in at the end of games with substantial leads so consistently.

Everything I just mentioned is common knowledge at this point, but it’s part of the reason it’s so frustrating.

I'm shocked anyone wanted to keep thibs. I'll pass on another year of playing the starters a ton of minutes and never using the bench. Let's keep in mind the knicks were wildly inconsistent in the postseason. They struggled vs det and they needed multiple miracle comebacks plus key injuries to get by bos. You aren't going to win the title playing 6 guys. Thibs has a ceiling as a coach and its been the same everywhere he's been he achieves success by wearing out his starters.

I don't know if Knicks fans are aware but their bench is bad. It's literally Deuce and Robinson. And Deuce had a bad postseason.

Was thinking the same. I'm in the camp that Thibs got the most out of what he had.

He had his flaws and I get that it's disappointing the team was just mid in defense.

But I think he had earned another season at least.
