Lot of tofurky there, was he a steady presence on the 90s Kings? The only team that could reliably be counted on to lose more games in more creative ways than the Warriors.

Great looking batch of cards! Idk about the rest, but in prepping for this thread, I was surprised at just how affordable the Stadium Club refractor is. With JWill only playing 3 seasons in Sacramento from 98-01, he would be a really interesting option for pursuing an extensive run of playing day Kings cards.

Idk how to answer this lol I do think he was traded for Bibby because Mike was more steady of PG and floor leader.

Thanks man, got a lot more to share, about halfway through those glory years I would say. I may try to group together some of the players I have less cards of. Tough to argue with JWill, such a fun player to watch. Really want a flawless auto of his, they're just so expensive haha

Appreciate it! I'm surprised at how affordable pre-Panini gold refractors are. I wish I could say the same about Exquisite.

So something cool to preface the Scot Pollard cards in my collection: there are 39 total cards of Scot Pollard in a Kings uni. That seems, like, really attainable. I kinda would love to catch em all. Pun intended.

I was surprised to see that Pollard was a King for 5 seasons, it felt a lot shorter. Loved his energy off the bench and has always seemed just like a genuinely good dude. He had a heart transplant last year that has been successful, thankfully.

Here are my four Pollards, 35 to go!

Obviously, none of these are all that valuable. The base version of the 2000 Autographics is my favorite from that year, the purple foil is just so pretty. Anyone know about the red foil from 1999? I've never seen one, but have been looking for it.

Looker For
Every Scot Pollard card not pictured above.

The last member of the 98-99 Kings team of whom I have cards in my collection is Chris Webber. The best player and MVP of the Kings of the glory years, who for some reason tends to be viewed by many negatively by my measure. He seems like a really great person, and I love that he wanted to stay in Sacramento and was devastated to be traded to Philly. CWebb is really expensive to collect because of how rarely he signs, even now. I also don't feel like he has a lot of memorabilia cards out there. All that to say, my Webber collection is not one that will "ooh and ahh", but as a collector who couldn't give two s$*ts about current or future card value, I actually think Webber base and insert cards are really collectible because he was a star in a great time of card manufacturing and has great photography on many of his cards. The beauty to value of all these cards is incredible.

Okay, enough of me, my Chris Webber cards with some notes:

1. That Gold Label is such a pretty card. Cheap, pretty cards are underrated.
2. I know people don't like the Topps base with the orange border, and i don't necessarily care either way, but there needs to be more variety in designs. I'm sick of all the Hoops and Donruss base with white borders and Prizm base with those silver metallic borders.
3. Player of the game insert is such a cool concept. Love cards that commemorate specific moments.

1. Love the photos etched in foil on the gallery.
2. I like the pairing of the all star floor and the optic all star insert. I moved them together in my binder.

1. Donruss is /207, which is his career scoring average (20.7)
2. The SP Authentic and Ultimate base are from the same year and look way too similar for being from products of starkly different levels

My "biggest" and only valuable Webber card is still at COMC:

Hope you enjoyed!

Webber cards I'm searching for
1. 2001-02 Skybox E-X Essential Creentials Future /14
2. 2002-03 Fleer Premium Base Emerald /300 (last needed for the 02-03 Premium team set in all parallels!)

Back on the train with Bobby Jax, the Kings 6th man who was signed as a free agent in 2000 and eventually won 6MOY in 2003. A fan favorite whose energy and effort off the bench was contagious. It was awesome that he came back to the Kings after several seasons to retire with the team after the 09-10 season. After being an assistant coach for many years and the head coach of the Stockton Kings for a season or two, he is now in Philly on Nick Nurse's coaching staff.

I have only a few cards of his, but I feel like they're some fan favorites, generally speaking.

2000-01 UD Base "Game Jersey Edition" - anyone know what that game jersey edition is? From my research on TCDB it seems like it has something to do with series two packs. Are those present on all base from the series two packs?

2001-02 Topps Pristine Autographs

Various golds (refractor) - anyone know what's up with the Reflections gold? It looks like there's some...greening? on it. I don't know if that's normal in general for the set? On the golds only? Do I just have a defective copy?

13-14 Totally Certified Patches Green /5

And the one non-card is a signed 8x10. Love the photo being guarded by Kobe, what a great rivalry that was. Bittersweet for sure

Cards I'm Looking For
1. 2002-03 Hoops Stars Base

I know, easily available and cheap, but I can't even get myself to shell out the $2.25 for this card that's available on COMC. Maybe the five star /299 is the way to go considering it's cheaper on ebay than the base.

Couple more players to share and an addition to a previous pc!

First is Hedo Turkoglu, another player who joined the team in 2000-01. A 16th overall pick who found a way to contribute to a playoff team and lift that team into a title contender. Great player whose skills would be very valuable today and only spent three impactful seasons with the Kings. I think he was 7th in 6 man of the year voting in only his second year, just to illustrate his positive impact off the bench. He was traded to the Spurs after his third season for a package that included Brad Miller, who became a really important member of the Kings for future

I know, this is not an impressive group of cards. I missed out on the Hedo version of the Pollard at the end of this post because my kids distracted me from the end of the auction...darn kids. Would be my best Hedo by far. These two cards are his SP Authentic RC and a Fleer Hot Shots base from 02-03 (actually have the Hot Hands @ comc for the rainbow!). I think the SPA is a nicely designed, different enough base card to be interesting plus it's numbered, which is always nice for a base. Also nice because I found it at a local memorabilia store for a buck (graded BGS 9).

I have a slightly more robust Doug Christie collection. Defensive stopper on the team who became a color analyst and radio guy turned assistant coach turned head coach. I love how much he seems to love the team, he is a forever fan favorite.

Another group of super cheap but nice cards. Great photography, Finite is /299. I absolutely love the back of Bowman cards:

Shares the record for steals in a half? That's gold (no pun intended) to have on the back of a card.

And love his auto. This set from preferred is beautiful. Lmk if you have any Kings.

Cards I'm looking for
1. 2013-14 Preferred Signatures Parallels

And another addition to the Pollard collection. Been looking for the MVP promo for a while, an missed out on the Hedo Lmk if you have any other Pollards. I want them all!

At the end of the week, I have a huge lot of parallel (mostly numbered?) and inserts coming in that'll add a significant chunk to what I've already shared, as well as Gerald Wallace, who I haven't shown yet. But I'll show the Crash stuff I have now, and then just have a post with the entire lot pickup when it comes in.

Gerald Wallace makes me sad. Such a shame that the Kings allowed him to be chosen in the expansion draft with the Bobcats. I'd like to think Sacramento's playoff drought would've started later than 2006 had Wallace remained a King.

Only three Wallace cards at the moment in the PC, but with one of them being his Topps MVP Promo rookie and another being his lowest number topps pristine refractor RC /250 (overall lowest numbered rc refractor aside from his chrome black which is /50), feels like a decent trio. Wallace will be one of the players who will be majorly featured in this week's lot pickup.

I tried to process my big lot of cards that I added, but was too overwhelmed to figure out how to share it, so kinda just gonna summarize it here. Maybe I'll take some pics as I add to my Kings/player binders and update this post.

170 total cards (55 numbered most of which are rcs, 102 inserts/rcs, 8 base)
Breakdown:
37 Kevin Martin (11 numbered, 26 rcs)
23 Hedos (17 numbered, 6 rcs)
14 Francisco Garcia (3 numbered, 11 rcs)
13 Webber inserts
6 JWill inserts
13 Bibbys (2 numbered)
1 numbered Vlade
9 misc. rcs (3 numbered)
8 misc. base

Again will update this post if I find a way to practically show some of the cards.

Default My Kings (+More) Collection

Having lived in Sac during the Greatest Show on Court years, I knew I had to put together a small Kings PC when I got back into the hobby.

At first I cast a pretty wide net, focusing on Webber, J Will, Peja, Bibby, Vlade, Christie and Jackson from a bunch of sets.

Over time I’ve narrowed it down to just a handful of cards to remind me of those years — Topps Chrome black (2001 and 2002) and gold refractors. Still on the lookout for the 2001 Bibby /50.

I also wanted a playing days C Webb auto in a Kings uniform—surprisingly hard to come by!

Since Jason Williams doesn’t have any playing days autograph cards in a Kings jersey, I got this signed at an event. Love how this photo epitomizes his flashy style.

Dang dude what a collection! You did an excellent job staying focused. I didn't even realize that JWill didn't have a playing days Kings auto. I agree that the Webber autos in Kings uni are hard to come by. They're out of my budget, but would be a dream to add one. I'd think one of those would have to be on a short list of potential top Sacramento Kings cards ever produced. I don't think I had seen that specific Webber auto, my mind always goes straight to the autographics. I'll keep an eye out for a Bibby black for ya, I haven't been sharing my team sets thus far, but I may have to do so for some of the refractor sets I have to keep the theme going.

thanks man! much appreciated on the Bibby! looking forward to seeing some of your team sets.

yeah the Autographics is the one that comes to
mind for me as well. mine is not quite as nice imo, but it was cheaper

from what I can tell Webber had Kings autograph cards in three sets in 1999: Skybox Autographics, Fleer Ultra Fresh Ink, and Fleer Focus Fresh Ink.

supposedly the Fleer Ultra is rarest, followed by Fleer Focus (estimated print run is 100) and then Autographics (estimated 4-500, besides the /50 parallel obviously).

come to think of it, these 3 might be the ONLY playing days Kings autos from C Webb? don’t quote me on that because I haven’t fact checked myself. but I can’t remember others … always wondered why he has signed so little.

Just kind of wild to think about. Only 3 playing days autos in Kings uni when he was with the team for seven seasons? Understandable why they're so expensive. I'm glad you pointed out the Fleer ones to me, I'd also probably add those over the Autographics due to rarity and price. He did sign more for Panini in the mid 2000s, especially in Flawless and Eminence, but those go for four figures, so yeah, not happening. I'd rather take an Autographics for under $1,000.

Before I make that team (refractor) set tangent, here are some detailed photos of the lot I got. Tried not to make them annoyingly large, hopefully I didn't overcorrect and make them annoyingly small. Probably should've gone chronologically in some capacity but I kinda just went in the order I process them. I know most look at a lot of low value inserts, rc, and numbered and think "meh, just quantity over quality" but I think that adage is inherently flawed. These are cards. Isn't what they look like what makes them high quality rather than their value or even scarcity?

Anyway, player by player look with thoughts here and there:
Gerald Wallace

The first three images are the rcs in the lot organized by manufacturer.
  • UD and Fleer love the white designs and Topps really embraced the Wizards blue on multiple releases with MJ's return.
  • Topps designs have the best variety and don't feel repetitive.
  • Simultaneously I appreciate the unique card designs like the Game Film and Authentix that incorporate different elements to the cards.

Francisco Garcia

Some more vet base I didn't include, but not a very extensive addition to the Cisco PC, though I do like the Flagship/Chrome and Bowman/Chrome RCs together.

I didn't realize til now how much I like that Chrome has in game photos of rookies, as with Gerald Wallace. If Optic did that for rookies vs. Donruss, I really think that would elevate the product. I wonder when that started because I know in 98 with JWill and Peja flagship and chrome had the same photos.

Kevin Martin

Only Rcs here I believe (I'm devolving)
  • Was this the last year Pristine base was chromium? The next year, which was above (Garcia) was paper. Not sure if they still had refractors or what not
  • Feels like UD really stepped up their game with designs. Much more variety compared to just a few years earlier with Wallace. I'm a nerd, but I wonder if that was bc LeBron and UD stepping things up all around in 03-04
  • Not sure I've seen or noticed this before, but parallels like the Luxury Box and and the gold bazooka are thicker than their base counterparts.

Hedo Turkoglu

Not sure what it is, but I like a lot of Hedo's photoshoot photos on his rookies. Lots of action shots and posed ones are funny to me.

Mike Bibby
  • My third copy of the Premium Emerald for some reason lol
  • That Photo Effex card is awful
  • Pretty cool bc I have the Christie from the same Gold Medallion and Bowman Gold sets
  • Bibby is my next player focus coming up next, and I'm excited for it because I have a good chunk of Bibbys

Peja Stojakovic

Not a lot of Pejas and no RCs, but I like the draft class with Nash and the Peja/Vlade at the bottom pair nicely with the Christie /299 I have. Anyone know the difference between the Vlade and Peja Finites here? Different numbering but look exactly the same to me.

Jason Williams

I must be the king (no pun intended) of low end Jason Williams inserts. I imagine his flashiness got him included in a lot of those insert sets too. Love the double feature because of the team collecting and featuring multiple players from the same team.

CWebb

Speaking of high inclusion, as the best player on the team, I'm sure Webber was also in a lot of those late 90s and early 00s low end sets. Great photos on nearly all of them.

That'll do it. Hope you enjoyed "going through" the lot as much as I did.

fun stuff, thanks for sharing!

agree Hedo had some nice cards. always liked the big “SACRAMENTO” on the Topps Heritage 70s throwback.

love the Double Feature … I never could find the dual refractor version, sneaky hard one.

that Quantum Leap Webber is cool looking too!

Thanks for sharing some highlights for you. One of the things I'm looking forward to with Fanatics getting the license is Topps Heritage designs, so I totally agree on that Hedo.

Tell me more about that dual refractor. I don't know if I even noticed (oops), but is only one side of mine a refractor? Just the Webber side? And then there's one with both sides as a refractor. Had no idea, thanks for sharing. Really cool tidbit there.

I'm very familiar with your Ray PC. Absolutely incredible, no doubt. Your family of logomen is so crazy. Like, no words can describe haha do you collect non Kings stuff of his (I see that Spurs 1/1)? Do you collect any other Kings?

Next up is one of the last few members of the Kings glory days; I think only Brad Miller remains. Bibby was really the key that unlocked the Kings from really fun playoff team to serious title contender and he quickly turned the team into title favorites in 2002 and 2003. '02 was the controversial conference finals against the Lakers and '03 was the year Webber shredded his knee in the conference semis, which ultimately shut the door on the team's contending window. Bibby was an excellent game manager and was the team's clutch shot maker, most notably hitting the game winner in Game 5 of that series vs. LA. He and Miller were the last remaining players from the glory years until being traded away in 2008 to the Hawks in Bibby's case. He came back and worked doing game coverage in the last few year's and was just hired to head Sac State's basketball program.

Since Bibby spent his first three seasons with the Grizzlies, I have none of his rookies, but here are his (mostly playing days) cards that I own, organized by manufacturer/card type:

Fleer inserts and parallels

Topps inserts and parallels

UD inserts and parallels

UD stands out again (not in a good way) with the heavy white/team color combo on all their designs. Kinda boring. Shoutout Bobby Jax shadow on that Exquisite base! Also never realized how similar those Spx and luxury box designs are to each other.

Autos

All on card, including two IP. I love that prizm 2015 silver with the IP auto. Don't mind that absolute green /5 either.

GU

Snagged that Elevation gold from my LCS. Was fun to find a Kings gold down in a SoCal LCS.

Very surprised how few Panini cards I have of Bibby, especially autos and GU.

I used to collect all Kings I liked, but it got too expensive. So I just stick to Ray McCallum now because I embrace the challenge of finding a rare one I don’t have yet. I probably pick up 2-3 new cards a year of his because I pretty much have them all

Very cool, and really impressive to have achieved that level of completion with such a modern player. Talk about expensive! Haha may I ask what appealed to you about collecting McCallum among all Kings players?
