Hey everyone, I’ve been selling off my pc to buy my one grail card in an ‘18 bowman chrome Ohtani hitting auto. I’ve looked at comps for base and blue /150 and they seem to kind of be all over the place. Any rough idea what the average price for one of the base or blue would be? 9, 9.5, 10 doesn’t really matter to me tbh. Thanks in advance.

Like I was alluding to earlier, it seems that the Ohtani market for chrome autos has really taken off. His market has only gotten stronger over the offseason. According to Card Ladder, the Bowman base hitting auto runs anywhere from $9-15k depending on grade, and blues run anywhere from $15-30k, again depending on grade. Since there are many variables, I’d recommend really researching price for each individual card and be prepared to pay a premium. Good luck.

I tried winning the recent Goldin 2018 TCA gold PSA 9, that ended at $23.2k. Got too rich for my blood. Hopefully one of you fine gentlemen won.
In addition, saw that his TCA purple PSA 9 sold for $10.2k. That was crazy, so I had to verify with PSA that it was paid for. And it was. Even fine 9’s have reached five digit territory. What a time to live in.

All the chrome autos are up, but the growth is definitely lumpy. The /250 purple auto 9 went for 10.2 while the /25 employee auto 9 just went for 9.9. Gotta look for the value in a hot market rather than chase what's already left the station.

For sure, I just wanted to present what’s being data produced on CL, hence the “prepare to pay a premium” line. The chrome autos are definitely edging up, even at this price point. Auto quality is a good point and harder to quantify in data research since it’s pretty subjective

Oh, for sure. Was just layering some additional context. Been keeping close track to find that elusive value . And yes, auto quality matters more as the card gets pricier!

Man finding that value is rough rn! $10k employee base auto in PSA 9 prob is the best one can reasonably expect to find… I think you mentioned it before but I really do wonder now if Shohei stuff will get to that MJ basketball level of froth. Rookie year , new stuff, doesn’t seem to matter, all of it is pretty pricey. But the demand, it appears, is there.

Can report the low end RC cards seem to be steady with PSA10 base RC ticking up in price. Mid end RC's seem to be ticking up for some cards (mainly Topps chrome refractors). Haven't been buying much lately due to not finding any deals.

Bummer reading that Ohtani won't be pitching for awhile. I guess the good news is he will continue to steal some bases.

That's the fun of the game, searching for value. It can always be found regardless of whether the micro/macro markets are hold, cold, warm, etc.

Sometimes, the train (temporarily/permanently) returns to the station too.

The game is definitely a lot more fun for early believers though haha.

Certainly seems to be on that direct path, but we won't know till he gets there. I will say that he is a more likable human being than MJ. And ngl, I delightfully won that employee auto. This is why you bid even if you don't think you will win

Absolutely agree, there is always value if you take the time to rationalize. Transcendent Japan framed auto were a great value up to last year and now we have authentic /5s with damaged surfaces going for nearly 7K . Onto the next value hunt!

Picked up a few low end Ohtanis at a trade day this weekend. Normally wouldn't buy unlicensed and I know that particular Leaf set is a bit of a gimmick but for the price I got them I couldn't help myself given they're still 2018 Shoheis numbered to /50. Hard to tell in the pic but the Topps is a rainbow foil and the chrome is a refractor.

I told myself initially that once I finished the base card Aaron run that was enough but I keep picking up more Aarons anyway. Sometimes I lie to myself when it comes to baseball cards

STOLEN!!!! PLEASE be in the lookout for this card as it was stolen in transit to its destination (I was the seller). It is 076/150. It made it to San Bernardino before being shipped back to me. When the packages arrived to me, it had clearly been tamper with and the card was not in the package. Any and all help appreciated.
