Good podcast episode recently with 4SC on Stacking Slabs podcast.

The shear number of 10’s that they get though. I’m sure they are getting 8’s too—but they are doing the same process we are. Screening cards and subbing the likely 10’s. They would not be doing it if they were getting the same 10-20% gem rates on modern that we are! Unless they like losing several hundred dollars on every 100-cards.

My guess is that their gem rate has not changed from the way it used to be. It’s likely still 80% or higher on modern. If it wasn’t—they would stop slabbing many of the cards that they do. It’s simple math. They sell many 10’s for $20-25. Those 9’s would struggle to get $5 if they sell at all. That’s not the business model they are using. They are pulling huge gem rates or you’d see a shift away from low end and towards more higher-end cards being subbed/sold.

Gotta just think. If we all got the same gem rates they did, everyone would do what they do to make the $ they do! If the gem rates were the same for everyone, why aren’t there hundreds/or even thousands of other 4SC’ers businesses out there?

Your stuff went into R&ID in two days for a bulk? How'd you manage that? Did you package the two subs together?

Yes. Intentionally put them in the same package knowing that historically (but not every time), the higher service level drags the lower one into R&ID in a more timely manner if they are packaged together and a combined label is used on the package.

Purely anecdotal, but it worked again.

My recent submission support this too. I sent a 20 card bulk order and a one card march value special order together. Package arrived on 3/13 and both orders were scanned in and showing as order prep on 3/20 and then both went to R&D on 3/22. My bulk order is still in research but my higher service level is already at green check assembly.

I have a previous bulk order that entered R&D on 1/30 that has had no movement since then so bulk orders are extremely backed up. Ideally this second bulk submission will have saved some time by sending the higher service order with it

CGC has a reduced cost service level for comics where they won't slab unless it's a specified grade or higher.

Would be great if PSA implemented something like that.

Two orders that recevied upcharge email LAST monday finally popped yesterday.

Interesting when you receive a 7.5 in one order and an 8.5 in another order.

I maintain, if you get a grader whose nazi level is so high that they are throwing out half grades, odds are your order is getting crushed.

My order that was in R&ID for 2+ months went into grading yesterday and is in Assembly hell now.

Less than 24 hours in Grading is pretty shocking.

I don't know how they get the volume, but they're probably buying tons of sets and collections on the cheap then breaking them down. They piece out the stuff not sub worthy through NESS. I've got new stuff figured out and can hit 80% on that. It's the 90s and older stuff I haven't quite got pinned down yet where I'm probably closer to 60%. It look me a few orders many years ago to realize PSA wasn't handing out 10s on what would be BGS 9 subgrade for corners.

10/60 on a mostly wnba prizm sub, including loads of 6s-8s, and an N6 on a brand new Caitlin Clark. Probably the last penny PSA gets from me directly.

Yeah they are listing thousands upon thousands of 80’s and 90’s PSA 10’s. The stuff that’s become impossible to get 10’s on. They are in new slabs. There are so many cards that are noticeably off-center or show an imperfection. But yet they stand tall in those impossible PSA 10 slabs.

I’ve gone through many different collections and opened many factory sets and looked over cards that haven’t seen daylight in decades. Looked them over with 10x magnification. Only picked the centered with clean surface stuff. Whittled 10’s of thousands of cards down to 12-15 card subs. Those cards come back 7’s, 8’s & sometimes 9’s by default with a token 10 in there occasionally.

4SC is proving what we all already knew. It shouldn’t be that difficult and it’s not—just for them though. The simple fact that they sell these cards for $20-25 says that they don’t spend a ton of time “vetting” for perfection (like what has become required for the rest of us to get a 9).

My order from the first week of January is celebrating its 7th week officially in R&ID today, but...

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

I wonder how much of that is on PSA and how much is on Panini putting out a crappy product.

I know a lot of Panini cards have thin print lines on the back side that basically look like perfect horizontal scratches. Then all the stuff with divots on front or back followed by rough edges and the more obvious centering problems. The stuff's been a challenge since 2020. I'd still expect an experienced submitter to get better than 17% gem rate.

My order got green check on assembly since 3/22 and I haven't received an upcharge email as of yet. If its already been a few days at this point do you think I am not likely to be getting it?
