1980-2000 mostly. Love the steroid era. Frank, Griffey, Bonds, the Oakland A’s, puckett, Randy, maddux, chipper, piazza specifically

Jonny Gomes. He was called up to the AAA Durham Bulls at about the same time I started watching baseball; over the following five or so years, my dad and I went to ~30 of their games a year, and so saw Gomes at the outset of his career. I always enjoyed and appreciated his all-out style of play, perhaps the byproduct of not being the highest-touted prospect, and knowing he had to work hard to make it: whether it was charging down to first on a routine groundout, quickly whipping his bat back after a swing and a miss as if he'd just made a mistake that he was about to rectify, or his willingness to stick his elbow out and get plunked in order to get on base. He also had a ton of energy, clearly loved playing the game, and backed his teammates up, characteristics that helped him gain a reputation as a clubhouse leader in the majors even as he remained something of a platoon player for much of his career.

Choosing to collect Gomes also was somewhat serendipitous. He was always good and popular enough to appear in products and have some decent cards, but never so huge that he had many thousands of cards and the idea of coming close to completion was fanciful.

I've got about that many of the 2014 Bowman blue /500; the below is 1/500. Sure wouldn't mind getting all 500, though they now show up only rarely.

Ditto this. Gomes has two /3 cards from 2006 Topps Triple Threads, and I own five of them—three of the MLBs, and two of the RBIs.

I could normally care less but when you go to start a PSA registry set and see the cards serial numbered to 5 on the checklist....I just dont bother. Haha. Why try and collect a set when you know you wont ever complete it.
There's a 2019 card that I own four of the five red refractors of.

Literally just got the fourth one in yesterday. Not kidding.

Don't expect to ever get the fifth, but would be psyched if I did.

I also own all four printing plates of Yasmani Grandal's 2015 Series 1 card. One of my favorite random things in my collection.

I often wonder about supercollecting in the 2020s with the parallels explosion. I recently bought a 2021 Optic parallel for Anthony Rizzo, from the 50¢ box, just because of being intrigued by the parallel pattern. Not a product or player I collect though I do have a single page of my favorite 9 Rizzo cards. I just wanted to see what the name of the parallel was.

Along the way I discovered that Optic had 34 “different” parallels that year.

Meanwhile, just on a casual COMC search of year 2021 Anthony Rizzo cards, I discovered there were 542 “different” cards of him that year, with surely a few dozen more (1/1s mostly) that had never been submitted to COMC.

550 cards. 1 player. 1 year.

Could even SuperMan achieve that? That means obtaining > 10 “different” cards per week, every week. And you had better hurry because there will be hundreds & hundreds more, next year.

Now imagine the concept of “super” collecting Ohtani. I figure someone(s) are trying just that. The raw quantity of cards involved just boggles my mind.

Pirates card with a focus on McCutchen. And then a multitude of other things that I'll change next month because there are too many cards and I can't stay focused enough to finish.

I usually try to get a flagship, Topps Chrome, and maybe a few Chrome parallels of the big rookies every year. Nothing big $$$, like autos, but more affordable stuff like non numbered refractors or flagship photo variation. Plus I'm a Judge collector. I'll get anything I don't have, and can afford, of him.

I also get a Topps Factory set every year. I've got complete sets going back to 1973. Not all are factory of course.

I supercollect Barry Larkin.

My "buy it when I see it" list is down to 4 cards. If anyone has one of these or knows where one is for sale, please let me know.

Graded vintage, Molitor PSA 10's, and some prospects but not nearly as much prospecting as in the past.

I’m a Texas native and a Braves fan from my dad so for my own sanity my self-imposed restrictions are current or former Rangers/Braves players, guys from Texas, and guys from my younger days that I loved like Grady Sizemore, Zack Greinke, and Nomar Garciaparra. So Wyatt Langford and Witt are my top targets right now, but I try and keep it somewhat limited on myself so that I’m not chasing guys all the time or I would have zero direction.

I’m a huge ranger fan so having Wyatt Langford drafted and rising I’ve been all in!!! Happy he didn’t get higher than 7th in ROY voting as it has kept prices down! Expect big things from this kid!!!

Are there people that collect autographs of already autographed cards? Who does this sort of thing?

Are you concerned about the effect of a possible lockout on the value of the cards of these players?

I collect Cecil Fielder, and only cards from 1986-1999 (his playing years). I'd say I'm a semi-super collector... I collect the oddball cards and other items along with the "normal" stuff. I have just over 1050 different Fielder cards/items so far. The majority of the main cards (not counting oddball and non-card items) I still need are the more rare inserts, like the 1996 Select Certified Mirror Red/Blue/Gold cards and other hard to find ones.

Thanks to the collation problems Topps have been suffering I have like 3 2024 Museum /299 Auto Relics of Casas and almost the entire rainbow of both Kershaw and Clemens. I don't collect any of them but I am effectively holding them for ransom.

Oh, and I'm also consolidating. Although I decided to add a Maddux/Glavine side PC to my main Angels/Jake Faria PC since I chanced upon a pretty ginormous Maddux and a somewhat smaller Glavine collection at an estate sale and they mostly graded out great. And you know, I remember watching them pitch pretty well on the mound too. Maddux walked 14 batters unintentionally in 1997. 14! In 232.2 innings! And then 17 during his age 35 season in 2001. Helps that I'm in the Maddux Brothers Chapter of SABR (with all due respect they better keep the name instead of changing it to the Bryce Harper chapter, since they're all named after local players).

Oh and slightly macabre but I have a small collection of deceased players who were on the 25/26 man roster at the time of death. You guys can figure out the guys. I know it's weird, but someone has to build the memorial tablet.

Any tips on starting an Umbreon collection? I'm so clueless when it comes to Pokemon cards.

For baseball, it's jersey# card of Yu Darvish, Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons(if/when I can find Braves or Angels). I also check on certain Judge. Acuna Jr and Ohtani cards that might come up....but haven't found many I have been looking for in a couple of years.
