I read that the Dodges are in the mix too. I definitely won't complain if the Sox get him. But for the money I'd rather have two of the top free agent SP, a closer, Bregman and Teoscar which would probably all cost the same or less then the $500-600 million that Soto wants. I just hope Soto ends up on the Mets if the Sox don't get him. Definitely don't want him back with Yankees and don't want him going to another division rival. I understand Soto is the hot free agent but I've heard a lot baseball people say that he's a long term DH because he's not a great defender. He's only two years younger then Devers and I think their production will be very similar especially if Devers doesn't have to worry about playing the field.

To the latter point, the Sox may think they can mitigate some of Soto's negative fielding value by hiding him in Fenway's LF for half the games, the way they did with Manny.

Yes and have Duran or Rafaela in CF covering a lot of ground. I don't think Soto will ever be as bad as Yoshi so he will at least be playable with better defenders around him. It sounds like the Mets are the front runners so I'm not expecting to get him but it would be fun because it's been a long time since the Sox have made a big splash in free agency or a trade.

That's what I'm worried about. It is 1 year $10.75 million so that shouldn't effect their ability to sign high price free agents. I won't get too worried until we get a couple of the big free agents signing with other teams while the Sox do nothing.

It's one thing to bring in a guy like this when he's on his prime but bringing in a Carl Everett like character into the clubhouse who's also past his prime seems like more negative then positive

Don't think I've ever remembered rooting for a Red Sox player to fail before.

Take Dailymail reporting with a grain of salt but they say the Sox are the clear favorite to sign Soto. It says the Sox have made the biggest offer. And the Dodgers are apparently out because they don't want to shame Ohtani by offering Soto more then they gave Ohtani.

Yeah they are banking on Lucas Giolito and gonna spend 700M on Soto? Seems about right. He'll be chasing alot of balls in the corner for sure.
