Slim chance these guys play, but if they want to, I think Grant Hill will find some room for them.
By the time next Olympics come, KD will probably be retired and Steph won't be All-NBA caliber. Why would they get invited to the team?

My bad, they will both be retired.

As I said, the chances are slim, but did most ppl think LeBron would be on the 2024 team back in 2020?

There won't be another LeBron for at least 20 years, no NBA players is gonna play for 20 season while being half of that (at least) at the top.

Im a little worried we're hero-ing someone tied to high stakes gambling, but as the baseball community seems to feel, his dual-line stats this season to date are unprecedented in MLB history. From here on out, I think he will learn to live on $70 million a year.

Are there any Ohtani cards out there with more flair?

Gotta dig out my encased Qwasian 1/1 Ohtani sketch card. I bought that and that got me a basketball request, a Ja. Exactly one more card. When I asked for a Nesmith he said naw and that was the last I heard. In a sense, taught me everything I needed to know about being an artist.

I mean, baseball fans have generally been sticklers for no gambling on games. And I guess a Raptor actually got kicked out of the league this season for that (may have been on a prop bet concerning himself). But Ohtani's feats are so great that it's a distant memory. Anyway, wrong forum. But if we are gonna plaster his card here, had to comment.

Did you mean to quote that post or was this meant to be a general statement?

Neither would be incorrect.

Who would have been a bigger challenge for team USA - Serbia or the Denver nuggets?

I was wondering who would sign Yabusele. Pretty nice pickup! Kinda pitiful contract but that's a reflection of the modern NBA for you

I wonder if you dropped Hakeem onto the 92 Croatian team and made him an honorary Croatian, would they in any scenario had the dream team down big headed to the 4th. Seems unlikely, But never know.

This podcast got me thinking that yeah, Kerr probably did help Tatum. One with his ego problem. Two, he needed to just relax and enjoy the experience, get used to his life as a ringed star. Three, the stories and interactions... I mean Haliburton, even if/when his injury flairs up, will have a season's worth of anecdotes and stories to motivate the Pacers across next season. That's James Johnson level these.

This is like the 5th best team of USA basketball since 1992. Im not sure why everyone keeps pretending this team was great. Curry, Durant and Lebron are ancient compared to the Dream Team. Larry Bird was the oldest guy there and he was still younger than those three these guys!

1992
1996
2012
2008

All better than 2024 USA team

I'm confused.

Wasn't this year's global competition the best competition they've ever faced?

Sure. Both statements can be true.

The talent of basketball players across the world is much better than at any time in history. Al though those Spain Teams in 2008 and 2012 were very good and likely better than any team the USA faced these Olympics. Note also that 4 out of 5 1st All-NBA players were foreigners.

This version of USA basketball was very good but not as great as past teams. Did you know 9 of 10 Dream team members were 1st or 2nd team All-NBA in 1991-92? Magic was retired but he was also 1st Team in 1990-91 and MVP runner up. Not bad.

I did a rough calculation of bpm value over replacement (minus-2), converted to a 1-through-10 scale with '92 MJ at 10. The '92 team comes out ahead by a few points (Laettner deprived the '92 team of depth, otherwise it's not quite as close). '24 Embiid gets a "assuming healthy" rating of 10, but it doesn't consider his playing time (which didn't seem like much).

1992 2024

MJ 10 LeBron 8
Magic 8 Curry 7
Bird 5 Durant 7
K Malone 8 Embiid 10
D Robinson 8 A Davis 7

Barkley 8 Tatum 7
Stockton 7 Edwards 6
Ewing 7 T Haliburton 7
Drexler 8 Booker 6
Pippen 6 Adebayo 4
Mullin 5 J Holiday 4
Laettner 3 D White 5

(it's only a rough full-number estimate for the players, Pippen was more like 6.5)

Yeah, the Spain team was probably the best non-US team of the last 25 years. It think the Redeem Team is the second best behind the Dream Team and they had a hard time putting them away.
