Default Will Topps Salvage the Zerocool Dune set?

With Dune 2 releasing this weekend I got to thinking about the Dune set Zerocool teased at the 2022 National with the below lenticular promo card…

Zerocool also announced Stranger Things and Clerks 3 sets at same show and both of those subsequently came out (albeit somewhat in unconventionally).

Has anyone heard any recent news about a Dune set? I would think there would be enough interest for Topps to salvage it in some way like they did with Clerks 3.

Fanatics inability to really follow through on what is such an easy market to deliver to is astounding. Bunch of clowns.

They're way too busy trying to figure out baseball uniform pants.

Fanatics clearly expanded too quickly and tried to do too many things, too fast.

It would be interesting to live in a timeline where Topps retained the baseball license and their ipo went through. I think a “bigger Topps” grown organically through the injection of ipo funds and keeping the same people would have been a “better Topps” and better for the hobby.

Also, in that scenario, Zerocool (which was created waaaay before Fanatics bought out Topps) would likely not have been deemed redundant and Fanatics would probably kept the brand alive and we would see more offbrand nonsports properties getting sets. The Jackass set held some promise that Luber was able to get some cool/unique autos.., even if the Dutch auction format was kind of oddball.

CZX, CZ or ZX, whatever would have already had most of the Part 1 set ready to be packed out at the least.

I was excited for this set. I guess they'd rather put out Star Wars flagship.

I would not be surprised to see this receive the Clerks 3 treatment and get haphazardly dumped to the Fanatics website randomly one day with little fanfare or heads up.

Apparently, Topps sent distributors a release calendar today, and have "Dune Chrome" listed for April.

If they're taking the Dune film IP serious enough to produce additional sets, one would hope that bodes well for salvaging the Zerocool set, which I'm sure is high quality. (Say what you will of Zerocool, the sets have all be very lovingly produced imo.)

So many people will buy anything

As soon as they put 500. People will be waiting to over pay

This will sell out in a minute

Since there's no autos and it basically looks like a set of ten cards as parallels? Probably $25 per "box" of four cards.

Yeah, idk, I'm guessing that 500 boxes * 3 cards /150 means a set of ten cards? How collectible is that?

I actually don't think so -- I see this more as a movie promo card release day thing that they did with star wars movies.

Again, I think we should think of this as a small promo set with some tiny randomness. Given the thickness, I'm guessing they will feel like nice cards but ... yeah, idk about me needing a complete set.

We will find out in 5 mins. 500 boxes at $30 (my limit) is only $15,000… so probably will be higher than $30.

And by “my limit” that frequently changes on impulse after waiting in line.

Grabbed one here as well. Looks like it sold out in 3 minutes flat, so will be a nice collector's item if nothing else.
