My preference has always been for Griffey cards from his actual playing days. But when I saw this from 2022 Finest Flashbacks, I couldn't help myself. Picked it up a few weeks ago, and it finally arrived today!

I strongly agree with ethman91 that cards from the MLB playing days are the most meaningful, and by far. Watching influencers and sellers grossly promoting a player’s post-MLB cards reveals an ugly side of the hobby.

Finally got the images to post. Time to sleep!

And I'm glad you agree, MoreToppsPlease. Though, for the right card, I'll happily make an exception, hence the Griffey purchase from above.

Any ballpark ideas on value for a 1999 MVP Super Script? Mariners uniform card #190. Low #ed Griffey seems to have its own set of rules...

Last sale on eBay was for $2,500 on July 30, 2022 (card was graded SGC 9.5).

Was an auction starting at $2,500 and had just one bidder.

Tough card to price in today's market though.

I was finally able get all my Griffeys into a Flickr album. Nothing too crazy but I have been able to get a good amount of my favorite mid 90’s inserts for pretty affordable prices.

Stuff like this is one of the many reasons why I miss having multiple companies with the full MLB license, not just the MLBPA.

Awesome card! Makes me nostalgic for my days collecting as a kid in the 90s.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Competition between companies creates a healthy environment of growth and innovation.

Curious if anyone could help me with this card /set.

Looks like it's a promo card from the 2001 Cleveland National and it's hand numbered out of /20. Have only seen a Chipper Jones on comc/eBay but it's without the numbering.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen any other numbered cards from this Cleveland National set? Thanks!

Found this the other day in a box. Forgot I pulled this a couple years back from the 2021 All Star Rookie Cup set release.. Not a playing days card but still low numbered Griffey is cool.

Black Foil /10 All Time Rookie Cup Team.

I recently bought a 1999 Topps Chrome Griffey Jr. Lords of the Diamond Refractor. It says refractor on the back of the card, but it is clearly not a refractor. Is this a common error or just a printing defect?

Not necessarily common, but Topps did put "Refractor" on the backs of some non-refractor cards by mistake in the late 1990s. Happened with both insert sets and base cards.

Usually easy to spot in a photo or scan if the card is actually a refractor or not though.
