I was skeptical at first with this but this looks to be pretty good

The fact that they're releasing it on December 22 might mean they think it will be an award contender. The trailer makes it look really good to me.

Zac Efron as Kevin just looks off to me. Too muscular and hair too dark than what I remember. Still looking forward to this movie. Spent many Sundays at my grandparents after Sunday School watching WCCW.

Dark Side of the Ring on the Von Erich's was really good. Great talent that was cursed with trying to live up to a legacy that forced them into sucidal depression

Efron is too muscular to be Kevin Von Erich, and the dude playing Kerry is too small.

but i'll put all that aside, because the movie looks really good. but you also know, it's going to be incredibly depressing.

can't wait to see the movie.

That is what I thought to! I though Efron would have made a better Kerry than Kevin after seeing the trailer.

Growing up in North Texas in the 80's, the Von Erichs were as big/popular as any pro athletes locally. I still remember meeting Kerry at a store near our house and my sister swearing she would never wash her face again after Kerry sweat on her. It was also devastating as a 12 year old kid when they found Mike's body on Lake Lewisville, which was about a half mile from where we lived. I will definitely have to check the movie out with my brothers.

the Von Erich's are TX legends. even all these years later, people still talk about seeing them in person, watching them wrestle at civic centers, and their rivalry with the Free Birds.

Just watched Dark Side of the Ring with wrestler and promoter Eddie Graham. This is a family with just as a sad history as the Von Erich's. Eddie Graham father killed himself his brother killed himself then Eddie killed himself, then his grandson, and finally his son Mike Graham.

Exactly what I thought. That guy is wayyyyy too small. I'm somewhat OK with the guys playing Kevin and David for the most part.

I just assumed the assigned roles were the other way around, but the guy playing Kerry is a phenomenal actor, which is the most important thing here.

It'll be fine.

I can't wait to see it! But I agree that Kerry is too small and David too big. Didn't Kerry become the Ultimate Warrior for a little while?

He was The Texas Tornado in WWF.

He was also nicknamed The Modern Day Warrior in WCCW, but that had nothing to do with the Ultimate Warrior.

i can't stop watching the trailer, i'm so excited for this movie it's crazy. i'm on christmas break when it comes out, so i'm watching the first showing that night.

the more i watch the trailer, the more i'm starting to believe this might be the first movie i ever watch twice in one day.

how can i get excited about a movie that i know is going to be very depressing, it's weird.

It will be an award-winner. Mark it down.

I think otherwise simply because Hollywood already did that for "The Wrestler" some years ago.

And Hollywood gonna Hollywood ... but we'll see ... a24 been blowing up and still seen as cool and fresh so maybe ....

This movie should now be playing at a theater near you, and then streaming on HBO Max in early 2024.
(A24 movies thus far been streaming on Showtime, but a new deal with HBO kicks in for 2024).

It's only at our older cinema for this debut week, so I'll wait to see if it comes to the more modern one next week, but I'm definitely planning to see this one on the big screen.

Early notices are excellent for it, with huge praise going out for Zac Efron, especially.

Hoping to see this some time over the next few days. Really hate that they completely omitted Chris Von Erich from the movie, though.

i saw the movie two times already, including a sneak preview on Tuesday at the Alamo Drafthouse.

movie is solid, but i kind of have mixed feeling just because there was a lot of very loose facts about the story, the whole "dramatic license" stuff is taken pretty serious here.

- no Chris Von Erich at all, but he's mentioned in the end credits with a "in honor of"

- MJF barely comes out in the film, he has maybe 15 seconds of screen time, that's it. they don't mention Lance at all, nothing.

- they pushed David's death up two full years

- they pushed Kerry's motorcycle accident to the night that he beat Flair for the NWA title

- Mike didn't die on his parent's ranch, but they showed that here

- Kerry didn't die in front of his parent's home and wasn't found by Kevin, he was found by his dad in the brush

- also, they had an unnecessary "sex scene", it's not really a sex scene, it's heavily implied i guess, but it's a waste of time and not necessary to the flow of the movie. how did that make it but nothing on Lance Von Erich?

it's just little things like that that bug me. however, overall, if you can push those things aside, the movie is good.

- Jeremy Allen White is perfect as Kerry. he looks like him and captured his mannerisms
- the dude playing the dad was perfect
- the dude playing David was spot on
- the dude playing Ric Flair was pretty awesome
- Gino Hernandez and Bruiser Brody were spot on
- the music is awesome

it wasn't as depressing or sad as i thought it was going to be, The Wrestler was that way, not this one.

the movie was really about family, the father being overbearing, and really, about the brothers and they bond they had.

it's a good movie, i recommend watching it more than once, honestly. i've seen it twice and i play on going again tomorrow.

I’ve yet to see it but totally watched WCCW as a kid, I JUST learned that Zac Efron is playing Kevin and not Kerry. This completely blew my mind and I immediately ran here and don’t think I’ve ever posted in the wrestling folder. How is Jeremy Allen White Kerry???? This seems insane to me

we talked about this a few months ago, and i think everybody was asking the exact same question.

i had reservations about the casting, but i'll say this. i've seen the film 3 times already...the casting is amazing.

the guy who played David, was awesome. Efron did a really good job as Kevin, and Jeremy Allen White was perfect as Kerry, even though he's a lot shorter than Kerry.

he got his mannerisms down.

please go watch the film if you haven't, it's really good.

Finally saw it last night. Didn't like it nearly as much as I wanted to. I kept waiting for something about it to grab me emotionally, but nothing about it ever did. The historical inaccuracies didn't bother me, but the bad wigs did. I feel that wigs in movies are like umpires or offensive linemen: if I notice them, it's probably because they're not doing a very good job.
