At first glance, this looks like an absolute blazer but look at "49ers". How much does this factory defect affect your opinion of this card?

Grading is subjective, doesn’t really matter. It graded a 9, so it’s a 9. Weve all seen 10s that “deserve” an 8 or worse, but people have such an obsession with PSA slabs and buying the grade, the number is all the matters, even if the condition doesn’t agree.

That's kind of why I am asking for opinions LOL.

Combination of nice front and decent back centering on this card is really though. Given that and overall sharp corners, I think a 9 is perfectly fine.

Kind of my thinking too. I've never been a big haggler for a minor, factory defect on the surface. Always been much more about corners, edges and centering for me.

Yes. I value the importance of centering and corners greater than a print defect. 86 Topps has lots of print defects, so it’s not like it’s unusual. I recently got back 3 86 Rice that were PSA 8. Overall solid looking examples. No complaints given current grading standards. Yet I think this is example graded years ago is nicer overall.

this is an old school PSA grade. i think in a more current PSA mode, it's a PSA 9 "PD" for "print defect" on it.

Well done.
I would not have personally given that card a 9. But check the serial #, that's borderline dot matrix font on that label. That had to be an early example.
