And I'm not counting rookies and second year guys, because the hobby will always have folks pouring money into young players in hopes of finding the next big thing (think of 2014 with Winston and Mariota).

After Mahomes, you have:
-Allen
-Burrow
-Herbert
-Hurts
-Lawrence
-Fields?
-Tua?
-Watson?
-Lamar?

I put questions marks around the last 3 because I feel like collectors are either not all in yet, or have started to fade these guys... but there is still some hopeful money into them.

Regardless, my point is that all of these guys can't make it in the long run. There just aren't enough SB and MVP trophies to go around for every one of these guys to hold up in the hobby. Eventually, most of them will end up falling into Matthew Stafford or Phillip Rivers land and there will be less options to split up the hobby's money into.

We've already seen it with guys like Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones being basically dead in the hobby water. I just think we got a pretty talented run of QBs from 2017-2021, and it just cant work out for them all.
I’d add Rodgers to the list. Great point overall and agree.

Yes, him as well.

But I think he's in another place all together where he's done enough to be a top 10 all time guy, and much of his collectability may come from how likable he is from this point on.

Case in point: Brett Favre.

Rodgers and P. Manning have their own tier. They have nothing in common with the QB's on that list.

Hear you. I was replying to the original question:

How many valuable QBs do we have in the league right now that card collectors/investors haven't given up on?

If including retired players, completely agree that there are many more names to add (P. Manning, Brady, etc.).

Now, it's literally Patrick Mahomes vs. world.

Even if he doesn't win the chip this year, which I doubt he will against all odds again, it is fascinating to watch all preseason narratives about who will overthrow the Chiefs.

There was some debate last year and the year before about who the best player was, but now it's full on assumed by everyone.

Fun to watch if you like the Chiefs.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about Patty.

As an unopened collector, I've really narrowed my focus to 2017 products with just a smattering of other years thrown in. (2020 comes to mind)

Patty is just head and shoulders above everyone else.

Realistically, I feel his only true competition (after a significant injury) is Hurts and Burrow.

$5,201 for the bronze auto kudos to the seller for a sweet sale, too bad it (as was previously stated on here) was labeled wrong and not noticed that there is no authentication on the back of the card by panini. Sweet card nonetheless

I see what you guys are getting at, but that common thread I was referring to is the list of QBs currently playing who still have good money thrown at them. Rodgers in on that list because of his place on the top 10 list all time, which is much different than the res to of the guys i named.

The big difference is Rodgers has a floor and is not in danger of becoming Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton or any of the other QBs who had good careers and made tons of money, but have no hobby relevance anymore. Some of those guys on that list will end up there.... just too many names not to.

So you are all correct.

FWIW, Mahomes has looked very sharp.

Some drops and penalties have slowed the offense down early a bit, but his throws look great.

To be fair, at this point it's kind of like saying Michael Jordan looks good in preseason. I'm not worried about Mahomes moving forward at all. I'm mostly interested to see how others are doing, particularly the receiving core.

Pretty damn good (not sure if you have watched any games or not)

Watching pre-season is extremely boring to me....even when the starters were in. At this point every team knows what KC is capable of and you know the play calls are super vanilla.

17 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss the days when people cared that a prozm gold vinyl RC was selling. Unfortunately it happens every other month so there is zero awe.

Absolutely thrilled to add this to my PC. Been wanting an on card rookie auto within my budget and saw this for auction last week and had to get it. Sold my Klay Thompson Immaculate Rookie RPA, so had some money to play with. I have a Prizm Purple Crystals Rookie Auto and although I love that card and don't want to part with it, it's a sticker auto.

I slept on '17 Elites and XR's. Who's selling?

With Mahomes genius, they will find a way. Positive is it should beef up the offensive stats. They will certainly need keep the scoring in high gear.

I feel way better going into this year than I did last year. Defense should be better. 2nd year with MVS and Sky and Pacheco. McKinnon a beast in the passing game. Lots of work together in the off season. A few new/RC wide receivers looking to make a name for themselves. I feel a thousand times better going into this year.

‘17 Elites are some of my favorites…very underrated set. Appreciated that they put the rookies in pro unis that year. Wish I would’ve picked up more. Just could not get excited about the XRs though

Love your optimism…I’m expecting a rockier start. Really need the heart of our defense back in the facility

Let’s get this show on the road already

No Chris Jones your best defensive player for possibly half the seaon or more! Pass me what you're smoking! You do have a very easy start to the season then it gets brutal. NFL is a very very hard place to sustain greatness. Stilll waiting for Mahomes to play in his first EVER road playoff game! Will it happen this year?! We shall see!

* They've accumulated depth to make the defense a lot less top heavy. DB and LB rooms are the best they've been in years. They'll be adequate even if a guy or two is missing.

* The Jones situation is frustrating but Veach is doing the right thing. Everybody sacrifices a bit to win. You're either with that program or GTFO. Really thought CJ would be the type that gets it but apparently not. I guess he can join Tyreek who can't stop staring longingly at KC and Orlando who played himself out of millions.

* The offense should be amazing. Early returns on the new O-line suggest it's even better than last year. The WR/TE/RB rooms are deep with good situational role players, giving Reid and Mahomes a plentiful assortment to work with.

* Continuity is much improved over the last few years, where multiple position rooms were entirely rebuilt.

* The Jones and Omenihu situations are really the only big concerns going into the season.

Chiefs got an uphill battle this year. Just stating the obvious with cliches. The AFC is absolutely loaded.
