Default Can Bowman U take over?

Honest question. I’m a baseball guy that used to collect basketball a long time ago. If Fanstics sticks with Bowman U and incorporating high school grads, European prospects, and other young players will it catch on? For example X player is a five star high school recruit and gets his Bowman 1st when he commits to let’s say UNC. He plays at UNC for 2-3 years wins a chip, yeah right, and then gets drafted #1. Do you guys see a possible world in the future where his card to have over all rookies is his UNC Bowman 1st similar to baseball?

It will get supplanted by regular bowman chrome once Fanatics obtains the NBA license. The University line will be relegated strictly towards college stuff.

But wouldn’t it becoming Bowman Chrome with the license just strengthen the current Bowman U cards. The rookies, vets, and prospects will all be in there. It won’t change the fact that the 1sts will be in college or foreign unis.

Only problem is Panini should theoretically still come out with their slew of regular releases for most of the rookies (unsure about auto rights on Wemby atm). I'm not sure most clecters will covet these once the market gets saturated with other alternatives.

Let's keep the Bowman pumping on the football side.

Last year's Bowman U basketball blasters are on clearance and still sitting. No one cared about 21-22 Bowman U, people ONLY cared this year due to the first real cards of "Wembymania" and also Ms. You Cant See Me Caitlin Clark.

Have a regular rookie class without a guy with massive hype and a Final Four female star, this is back to being ignored. Not sure why "Draft Picks" sets and anything in college jerseys is always panned and destroyed here yet people are acting like this is the greatest set ever lol, well I can but we know the truth. Most baseball collectors outside these forums don't even really care about Bowman 1sts, I don't know anyone who drops the insane price Bowman boxes or 1st Editions are each year, yet will buy a box of flagship or chrome and it's been ingrained in baseball so no it won't cross over.

21-22 did not have licensed cards so not the same. 22-23 does. . . Although they are licensed cards in college uniforms. I hope you guys all keep not liking them so they will stay cheap for me. I’m a sucker for licensed UNC cards and love these bowman U cards. Just mad that they put Mando and R J Davis in last year’s unlicensed product and listed those as their 1st bowman. . I’ll be picking up blue refractors for all the Heels every year.

To answer the original question as opposed to expressing my excitement for bowman U Tar Heel cards . . . I think the 1st bowman’s from bowman U do catch on. The baseball 1st bowmans are in minor league uniforms so I don’t see what is different. Yeah it’s a “pro” uniform in baseball but not a major league uniform.

1st Bowman's in baseball are airbrushed so they are in their MLB uniforms. That being said, I do think they will catch on with the amount of diluting card manufacturers are doing to players RCs.

I don’t think so. Nba cards are different from MLB cards and there are many collectors who don’t dabble in both sports. You will need to convince a whole generation of nba collectors to value those bowman 1st cards, and where does that end, should there be high school and middle school players cards as well?

None of the above since Panini is going to win its antitrust suit and Bowman will always been unlicensed

No. It's not pro jersey stuff. It's equivalent to a draft product.

The first Bowman baseball cards are in pro jerseys buddy.

You're over thinking it. Bowman U. is to Prizm Draft as Bowman Chrome is to Prizm.

One point to consider is that this year's Bowman Chrome University basketball features a "potential" generational talent in his French professional uniform and not a high school or college uniform featuring a team locally as all the players do. This card is also short printed so it is more sought after considering that whole supply and demand part of the equation to boot. The other consideration is that "if" Fanatics/ Bowman does in fact have the exclusive rights to Victor's autograph, this alone would certainly lend some heavy weight to the conversation of true firsts. I'm old school and I still have a hard time choosing between 1989 upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr and his 1987 Bellingham Mariners card. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on what is special and unique in the market will move as it pleases.. we will see..
