Did this happen for anyone else? Just went to make an offer for an item, and before I could submit the offer it asked me how I wanted to pay and what shipping address to use should the offer be accepted. And a few minutes later when my offer was accepted, the payment processed automatically. Hadn't seen this before
On one hand, I've always liked having full control over when money leaves my account, even if it's just 5 minutes later it's nice having that final say. I wonder how this impacts if you wanted to make offers on multiple items from the same seller. I know I've gone in and submitted up a bunch of offers at once and let the seller know I was interested in more than just a few things - has always helped with shipping and sellers generally more willing to work with you if you're buying a bunch. How will things like combined shipping work with this? If it's collecting the payment up front and processes each accepted offer individually, that's a huge turn off for me as a buyer. Repeat $5 shipping per item and it doesn't take long for shipping costs to really get pricey As a seller this seems like a big plus. No more worrying about NPBs, hit the accept button and get your money Curious if others have seen this yet, and if so, your thoughts

I think there’s a setting where you can require payments on BIN

actually to me it is very bad because, that seller had 5 more cards i was interested in buying. 3 i was going to buy outright if this offer was accepted, and was going to make offers for the other 2. but since my initial offer on one card was accepted, i am not going to bother with the other 5 at this point. just cost that guy potentially 5 more sales.

A - make offers on each individual card and get hit with potentially 5 shipping charges since the payment appears to go through instantly when the offer is accepted or B - add all items to my cart and buy outright in order to get the shipping discount seemed to be no way to make offers on multiple cards in a single transaction. if this holds true, i will (as i just did earlier) pick the one caed i want most, and not worry about the others.

As a seller I love it. Too many times I accept the offer and then have to wait a day or two for the buyer to pay.
Like glen mentioned though, there should be an option to click if you are interested in other cards from the seller. |

Interesting, so is this a seller opt-in thing and not a site-wide rollout? Relatively new option, or have I just not found it before? Both the offers I made today happened to be in this new format, and hadn't seen it before now

It's a site wide thing even bin setting does not apply anymore I can click on any seller who claims they do not have it set and in 99% of the cases will be prompted to pay immediatly. With offers theis eas announced 2 or 3 years ago it has been slowly rolling out through the system

eBay doesn't want you to agree to buy an item and then not pay. I see no problem with this. If anything, you should just be more judicious in the offers you send. To say that you'll now buy off eBay less seems like a bit much.

On the Blocked Buyer page, there are 2 checkboxes under the Buyer Payment Requirements header.
The "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid." is actually a newer newer one I haven't seen before and it defaults to checked. The "Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer." has now been there for a while and defaults to checked, but I have it unchecked so buyers who make offers (though none of my listings are currently OBO) don't have to provide payment info prior to making offers to avoid the combined shipping and multiple transaction fee issue. |

I am not sure what kind of profit they make on transaction fees but I am sure a small chunk of it goes in their pockets. The more individual transactions they get the more yhey make. It also looks good to stockholders to be able to say there were xxxxxx transactions this quarter. They hide the fact that many should be multi item purchases From the sellers view I see the benefits but I see where many buyers will hate it and may choose to buy elsewhere Last edited by shrevecity; 08-04-2023 at 09:47 PM. |

i started selling on ebay in 1998. listed anywhere from 582 to just over 2,000 items a year from 98 until 2017. over 19,600 items listed for sale from 98-17. in 2018, i listed 38 items for sale, and in 2019, just 5. not a single listing on ebay since june 2019. did not like the things they were doing, so took my sales elsewhere (comc), and they are now running me off as a buyer as well. My issue is I like to use "card money" to buy cards. So I sell on eBay, pad my "spendable funds", and then use that to buy cards. Unless I just haven't figured out how, there is no option to use your spendable funds are the payment source, only debit cards on file. So now I cant use those funds any longer to buy best offer cards, only auctions. Really hindered my buying on eBay the past few months.

This is a new 'feature' that eBay has been rolling out. Soon it will be applied sitewide. This is to limit the number of unpaid items on offers, which is a huge pain point for sellers.
I do agree that I wish that I could use my spendable funds when submitting an offer as a buyer. I don't know if they will do anything about making multiple offers from the same seller. I personally just refund the extra shipping just like I would when someone makes 2 separate BIN purchases.

If eBay is going to impose immediate payment on buyers, then maybe it should require any seller who uses this feature to ship items (not just printing the label, but actually getting it in the postal service’s possession) within 1 business day. Most shippers are fast and a non-issue. Others have “will ship within 3 business days,” and they take the full time to get it there. A minority miss even that period. If we’re expediting the process, do it both ways. |

Ebay already sanctions sellers who do not offer 2 daybhandling time, yet some sellers choose to take those sanctions. Many of us have lives that do not revolve around ebay. Mine is 3 days I have a wife with medical issue a special needs step child and right now am dealing with my own medical issues having 3 days allows me to be able to drop everything if I need to. I know another seller who has 3 days because he chooses to wait Intel the money is in his bank account that's his choice. Bottom line is it's in the listing if you buy it you agree to it. |

Here's a thought I had - if forcing auto-payment ahead of time for best offers, how long until they do the same for auctions? That's a thought I don't like, but in theory you already know the max you'll pay when you bid

Many online auction sites will charge your card once auction is over. If it fails they may try again in 24 hours if it fails then you are typically restricted from that site

I've had a few people buy multiples and paid individually. I just refund the shipping difference.

Makes sense to me. Should cut down on crappy buyers and also help shill bidding a bit. Put your money where your mouth is policy is OK by me. It's too easy to make an offer or bid, and back out as a buyer. On the flip side, they should not allow seller's to be allowed to cancel auctions/bids/etc bc they don't like the price (while citing another reason). But, I suppose that's a separate issue.

I mention in my listings that in order to receive the shipping discount that I offer, all items must be paid for at the same time with a single form of payment. If you pay individually the cards will be sent individually....use your cart for multiple item purchases.
