Some consignors are 100% a better option for regular people when you start getting into higher value cards. For example, if you consign with Probstein and the auction closes above $1,000 you get 95% of the auction close. My personal eBay account rates are the standard 13%.

Say it is a card that would close for $5,000 on eBay.

If I sold it myself on eBay: $4,350 net
If I used Probstein: $4,750 net

Non-financial reasons: No hassle in listing, not waiting a month for eBay payout and more eyes on the listing. I also worry less about returns/non pay when consigning because there is another layer between me and the scumbags.

If you don't want to sell on eBay via consignment you have options like PWCC that can slab/grade and curate the card. I know my curated PWCC cards seem a lot more attractive than my eBay listings. These are established companies that aren't going to ruin their reputation over a Christopher Morel super. If you want to get it slabbed PWCC can handle everything for you (SGC, BGS) and if you send to PSA for authentication you can have them send it directly to the vault to be sold via Goldin.

For my purposes PWCC is better than Goldin. The only downside is PWCC does not offer PSA - but I would assume you could send the card to PSA and set the return to your vault at PWCC.

The safest shipping you can do is USPS registered mail. I believe you can insure up to $20k or $25k. It is hand delivered and tracked but takes longer than normal mail becuase it is kept under lock and key overnight.

I appreciate the very public and honest offer lol. That said, 3 isn’t scratching the surface for me. The kid is too good and it humbles me as a Cardinals fan to admit it.

I can tell you one thing up front. If some of the individuals are correct in that it will only be a 3-6k card, it’s going to be awkward telling all my fellow Cardinal fans about how I have this card in my collection. Lol
This stuff happens all the time. We see it on BO every few months. Guys that admit they don't know what they're doing. They then start shopping it to the auction houses, putting stupid BINs on eBay, posting it in forums and all over social media. Now is the time to go silent! Be a stealth. Guys go wrong wasting a ton of time seeing who can get them the very best final dollar amount. Trying to get one more nickel from the sale. But all they are doing is dwindling their buyers pool and wallet. These types of cards need to just show up at auction or wherever, ready to go...ready to be sold. They need to come out of nowhere. Let the auctioneer promote it. Not you! Remember...you dont know what you're doing. The market is the market if you do it right. The market becomes less the more time everyone sits and looks around, waiting. The longer it sits, the more these buyers realize they dont want to overpay.

Sell it quick before the Gilded, Logofractor, Cosmic, Update Chrome, Sterling, Pristine, Sapphire, and Update Sapphire superfractor autos hit.

I think the biggest issue you may have selling it yourself on EBay is if you have very low feedback. Unless you find someone who has to have it, it may scare some buyers off. A lot of people don’t like buying from others that they perceive have no idea what they are doing, which you have admitted here. But only time will tell. Very nice hit and good luck.

If selling on ebay, don't forget to look into opening a store for even just a month first. It can save you hundreds on fees.

LOL. He's 24 with 3 career WAR and bats 7th most of the time. That card's value is at absolute peak. Remember bro, baseball good=/card good. Get ready to be disappointed if "3 isnt scratching the surface" for how you value that card

Your excitement and expectations may be a little high right now. Highly unlikely this card cracks $7k, and $5k feels like a more realistic number. Also, it’s definitely not a top 3 card to pull. The auto supers for: Adley, Harris II, Walker, Carroll, Gorman, Greene, and Alvarez would probably all bring in more right now.

I’m rooting for you to get as much as you can get though!

With all due respect, I’m not here to talk baseball. I’ve got that on lock. Morel’s war is in fact at 2.6, but he hasn’t even played 180 games yet, either. To put it in comparison to what you may know. Corbin Carroll has 40 games in hand over Morel, with only 9 more doubles, 4 more homers, and 7 rbi. I’m not saying he is the same guy. I’m just saying you might want to zoom out a little for a bigger picture. Guys that come into a conversation screaming war are only discrediting themselves.

I've never waited more than 3 days for an eBay payout.
Is it longer if it's over a certain $ amount??

You can also ship it via PirateShip and insure it for up to $5,000.

This would be the cheapest "safe-bet" imo.

I have actively collected baseball cards for 30 years. Last night was one of the most sobering moments of my time in the hobby. When I saw the gold vinyl, I sat back in my chair, let the gold peak out the side, and dreamed about who it might be for quite literally 15 minutes. Once I convinced myself that I had most certainly pulled a super auto of a career minor league reliever, I revealed my greatest hit of all time and sat for another hour ear to ear.

I’m not concerned with that guy, either. There are definitely some troll responses in here. And that’s ok. I will take their responses with a grain of salt considering I’m getting so much phenomenal feedback along the way.

This not an auction house card. 99.9% of cards are not auction house cards…not matter what commission based workers at auction houses tell you.

eBay consignor like others have stated. Don’t make this more difficult than it needs to be.

I'd sell it ASAP because I can't imagine his value going up anymore than it is now. He was never a top overall prospect......at least you have the Cubs thing going for you.

There's zero reason you shouldn't already have this on Ebay, as long as you have decent feedback.
As stated before, if you don't have one, get an Ebay store... if just for a month as it will cap the final selling fee. Set a bigger BIN with best offer.
Finally, be realistic. If you decide to put it up for auction and let it run, sure you could get a couple deep pockets bidding against each other but don't assume you are buying a vacation home or a new Tesla.
Cubs players typically just don't garner huge money in the hobby. Talk to those guys still sitting on Bryant or Baez high dollar stuff.

Again, good luck.

Congrats on the pull!! I don't care how long you've been collecting, there's nothing like the feeling of pulling a huge card from a pack!

Unfortunately, people post so much on forums like these that they talk themselves into thinking they're experts on everything, when in reality most of the posters in this thread have never owned a card as big as yours, let alone telling you how they would sell it if they ever did. Like you said, you got a LOT of good info to help you, just ignore the haters. In the end, it's your card and will definitely get a lot more from it than you put into it, so congrats again!

...and if this post offended you, you might wanna check yourself.
