More slaughtering. 42% gem rate.

Have my last batch of cards that I've purchased that will go to them but after that I'm done. Zero consistency. Don't even want to look at what orders with 415 cards and 180 cards are going to look like.

Just an absolute pathetic #@#@#@#@ show grading, and this industry has become.

Since you’ve graded more than any 100 people I know, what do think is happening to cause such inconsistency? Whether or not the grader is having a good/bad day, lack of experience, rushing cards, etc?

I am out too. I just had a 22 card bulk order ship with no gems. It was all PC so I am not too worried about it. Probably about half of the cards I knew weren't 10s but the other half were all flawless looking at them under a loupe even. I said I was done after my last 40+ card bulk order from the surge, that one was tough too, with lots of cards damaged by them. Thought I'd try again a year later, well, now I'm done.

I really wish PSA would provide a report on each card and why it got the grade it did. It would go a long way in customer happiness and retention.

There is another grading company that I send some of my PC cards to and I get an email with a report that actually points out on each card the flaws they find so that when I get the slabs back, I can actually inspect them myself to see what they saw. That has been one of the best learning tools as now I know what to look out for before sending cards in.

I 1000% agree with you! However, and I’m unsure how much, but that time spent doing so would cut way into their 1M cards a month. Which this industry is just about money for these companies.

So, if this ‘card pop control’ is legit, such as the Griffey Jr. UD Rookie, and they’re having a bad day/rushing, that’s unfortunate.. it’s a crapshoot.. like gambling but playing poker, when you have some control of your outcome (aka - pre-screening your cards, etc.).

It only took me one order with one card to decide PSA isn't for me. They said the pack pulled card I had was trimmed and took my $100 just to send my raw card back. Scammers.

It's interesting that all of your gems were at least a few years old. It used to be that including older cards in an order would make the newer ones look better by comparison, but with print quality like it is the situation has probably reversed.

I knew the Oneil Cruz would grade low because of the centering but thought maybe an 8. I am just dumbfounded that almost all of the 2022 Heritage High got 8's though. I get centering was an issue for that set but I didn't think it was grossly bad. Whichever grader I got this go around I think had a deep personal hate for Heritage. lol

I will also say this was the first time I ever wiped down my cards with a micro fiber cloth and wore latex gloves to prevent fingerprints and it was by far the worst results I ever received.

Grades just popped on my first ever PSA sub. Long time collector, just never graded much but I'm looking to move a good portion of my collection and thought I'd try my hand at grading - I've been in and out of the hobby since 1984 after all, and I know how to grade cards darnit!

Was hoping to gem at a 70% rate in a 76 card sub, ended up being 54% - 41 10's. I was disappointed until I read the last 20 posts on this thread, now I feel like I dodged a bullet. FYI well over half the submission was various 2018 Ohtani rookies I cherry picked.

I sent in 7 of the 2018 Topps 1983 Silver Pack pitching rookies, and they all looked flawless except they all looked to have 60/40ish centering on the front top to bottom. These were the best 7 out of about 25 I've owned. Got all 9's, ugh!

I’ve seen that and they do have a detailed description. However, their downfall is they don’t grade anything before 2000 and I do 98% vintage. This is according to their website; they only grade standard size cards from that year and newer. I’m pretty sure they use a machine and it seems to be only calibrated for specific cards.

Well the only way to slow them down and prevent this scamming is to use other grading companies until they realize their subs are sinking. But in the same sense, they’re selling for the most. So, as a hobby, we’d need to dually affect the market - purchase a better grading company and not submit through PSA.

I’ve got another order arriving today. Here’s how it went.

Much of this was PC stuff that I wanted slabbed, so I expected the grades to be down. I sent in a couple of cards that were not in good shape. They account for two of the 7s and the 5. The other 7s came from 2017 Bregman RC parallels that are terribly condition sensitive. May resub some of those.

Overall, I wasn’t nearly as put off as those percentages might indicate. A few cards gemmed that I didn’t think would, so I’ll take that.

Once again, vintage was graded very toughly. Some were what I thought they would be but most of them were at least 1-2 grades lower than expected. After my next vintage order finishes, it will be a real debate if i send in another vintage order.
