Nice break! If selling the Wander, let me know how much.

The fact that the Witt ESP is a different picture than the Logofractor makes it pretty clear that the ESPs were supposed to be in the Logofractor boxes and screwed up, again. Sheesh.

Two boxes is the proverbial drop in the bucket, but I am going with the Charlie Bucket mentality when I receive them Saturday or Monday-It's all about having fun and you still get to eat the cards afterwards. Looking for Mr. Nootbar! (Candy pun)

I ordered 20 boxes. 10 boxes received and ripped. Got lucky and will probably pay for all 20 with the first break. I really like the look of the the Logofractor cards. Will rip the next 10 and work to complete the base set for my collection.

I disagree. I'm still small potatoes, but it is not difficult for me to see the path to a stable six figures income. Now, if you want to talk $500,000 annually, probably not. But $100,000 is absolutely in the cards just flipping/grinding on eBay and nothing else.

This reminds me of when I was first starting out in online poker. I was super excited because I estimated I was making about $3/hr. My friends thought I was crazy to be excited over that little money. The difference is I could see the room for expansion (ie playing more tables) and I knew I would eventually be able to climb the ladder to higher stakes. Same is true for cards.

He is just wrong. I stopped arguing because everything he is saying, like the random $100k statement, is nothing but his assumptions. Its a wrong assumption that I know is factually wrong. But its like arguing with a wall. The humorous part is that he hasn't ever done it. Or tried to do it. I'm starting to get the idea that its an envy thing more than anything else. Just my opinion.

My wife is a Red Sox fan. Even she doesn't like Jarren. He has really looked horrible so far in his early career. Batting can come around, but he has had some really embarrassing fielding too which is worrisome. I think that all leads to him being cheap. If anyone believes in him, I would say there is a lot of room to climb. But I won't be the one buying.

Don’t forget that in some states you are paying up to almost 50% of your income into federal and state taxes. As Khal alluded to above, you also need to pay for health insurance, contribute to a retirement account and other benefit expenses to raise a family.

Remember, it’s not $100,000 gross income, but the $100,000 net income after taxes and expenses that help your family survive.

Not as easy as you guys may claim, especially in a high cost of living area.

In addition, as eastbayak has alluded to, transaction risk can mount the more transactions you have. Ask him how easy it is to flip to $100,000 net income during a bear market - not the cake walk that you may think.

Even after the logofractor box gift - assuming you bought two hundred boxes at $55 apiece, and sold all for $90 on eBay. That’s $35 profit per box, but it’s not $7000 net income. He lives in CA, and at six figure income a year would pay around 30% federal income tax plus 13% state income tax on the $7k profit. That’s already taking a $3k bite off his profits. Include shipping to 100 plus customers, eBay and PayPal fees, you are left with about $2500 net profit without including all the labor cost.

And this has been the greatest gift in three years!!

To think you can do this during a bear market when all card prices and wax are down while trying to support a family of five, you guys are quite delusional.

Or maybe you guys just work harder than me or are smarter than me, but I would love to see how you can do it on a consistent basis year after year.

Yes ….. it’s easy to “picture” a 6 figure income from turning a Hobby in to a livelihood - but actually accomplishing it is a whole other Georgia Peach!

If you're literally just basing your possibly $100K income on flipping wax, you may be correct; however, there are a lot of other ways to make money in the hobby.

He's really fizzled out after being pretty high up in the Red Sox farm system rankings.

Yes, I agree there are other ways to make money in the hobby, my local card shop has made millions over the last several years, but was making barely $80,000/year during the lean years.

Of course people can make money in the hobby, look at BO.

I’m talking flipping as a side gig - buying a card or a box and selling it, like at a show or on eBay - it’s not as easy as people think.

I’m fully aware there are breakers, for example who can make six figures a year. I’m not arguing against that.

My point to the naysayers is that it is “impossible” to do it annually on a consistent basis while trying to raise a family. Those who claim it would be easy are delusional.

There are too many risks in flipping to make it that successful for decades on an annual basis. They’ve been misled by the pandemic boom. Recessions and bad investments happen and they don’t remember how bad financiallly things can be.

It’s not impossible, but it’s very challenging.

However, everyone has different standards. No wife, no kids, living with your parents who pay for your cell phone, food, health insurance, etc, and no retirement savings. Yeah, it’s going to be pretty easy to “make a living” doing this.

Just buy a good bot and you will get rich flipping by draining Walmart and Target retail boxes by the tens of thousands…
