I think most collectors (over 50%) still have no clue that you can't pull the sp rookies out of hobby or retail.

It will take about a month of two for this to sink in. People are pretty slow to figure things out, sometimes, if you are not a regular visitor to these message boards.

Hence, wax prices will continue to remain stale or drop well into december.

In fact, after the silver packs reach the market and singles start hitting the internet, I can still see a good number of people buying retail boxes so they can try to pull one of those sp rookies thinking they came from blasters.

walmart has a terrible theft problem for cards if they sit on an unmonitored shelf.

even if they were purchased and not stolen it’s not really the first stock that’s the problem. it’s that these should restock every week for a couple months.

I just refuse to be a part of a hobby unless I’m a part of that message board community. And that dates back to Usenet newsgroups circa 1997. If you’re not connected then you get left out.

I think the passionate collector likes to keep themselves informed.

Try going cold turkey on anything card-related for 6 months, you will feel naked getting back into the hobby.

Agree. I have learned significant knowledge of the hobby through these boards and gained excellent insight from several members

Those chase cards like Donruss Elites or the Upper Deck Heroes autos, etc...were far too tough to pull to change the price of the wax box much. And the other inserts of the early 90s weren't really chase cards. Buying boxes of 91 or 92 cards are still basically just buying base cards. The junk wax era was done by 1993, so all the actually collectible inserts later in the 90s aren't relevant.

Alot of people dont care about the SSP rookies, I know for many of you its all about the "hits" and the money, but plenty of people just like to collect cards and open packs. I picked up some blasters for fun knowing full well there will be no JROd or witt short prints in there. Ill hope to find some in my lite boxes.

I think most people hating this product aren’t complaining about the lack of hits, per se, but are pointing out how over-priced the blasters are compared to average yield and how the hobby product was pumped to the nearest nebula with prices to match.

Most people wouldn’t have a problem opening blasters at $20.

Just like most people wouldn’t be complaining about the sp rookie controversy if hobby boxes were $72 and jumbos $150.

Do most people even realize that there are SPs to begin with?

I went through a small town in Texas on Friday. There was a full stock of 30 blasters of Topps Chrome. Came back today (Sunday) and there were 24. I grabbed one because I really like the look of the cards this year. I’ll probably grab a few more and have some lite boxes on the way. Once breakers start pulling SPs out of those, I could see them getting emptied off the Topps site. Either way, I’ll have fun opening mine.

True. I think many people are still like - "it's topps chrome, it MUST be good".

I opened a lot of Donruss as a kid and never saw any Elite Series pulled. The PRs are in the 10s of thousands but they were still one in several case hits.

I do think that once PSA lowers prices to more realistic levels that chrome base will be worth it again for the star players. At $22 there just nobody that is going to be worth purchase price plus grading minus selling fees and shipping.

Probably no more than 1/2 of your “average Collectors”
Probably more than 90% of the more savvy BO Collectors

I've just had a chance to look at the checklist for this year.
Boy. The RC class seems particularly weak.

I'm not an auto collector so most of the dust-up surrounding it doesn't bother me but with a weak RC class even the numbered, colored refractors chase becomes less appealing.

Anyone see any diamonds in the rough amongst this class of RC's that might develop in 23' or 24'?

As of now, it’s all about Wander and the SP RC’s
Wander is currently on ice, and the SP’s have limited distribution

I know you have the index and are well informed, so I value your opinion. But from my recollection 2020 seems late. The 2019 rookies (Eloy, Tatis, and Alonso, and NNO Guerrero were highly graded, same for 2018 Soto base.

I'm not an expert, but i just don't see much of anything beyond Wander. I'm not giving up on Wander just yet. Anyone who strikes out as little as he does will be a good hitter. The question really is will his power develop and make him a GREAT hitter. Don't know. His splits between batting left and right are kind of rough. He will need to make a decision with that at some point. Oneill Cruz just strikes out way too much. Detmers is good but doesn't have the velocity you want to see in an elite pitcher. Joe Ryan is too old. Lars Nootbaar might be one to keep an eye on. He doesn't strike out a lot and power seems to be developing. Not sure he will ever be "great", but he could sneak up on everyone and be a pretty "good" hitter.

As a kid it certainly didn’t stop me from dreaming, and buying wax hoping to hit them

True that. I never saw one pulled, but a kid in my neighborhood had an Elite card and he was king of the block.

Oh man! He was a hero!

I don't think I knew anyone that pulled or owned one.

I oogled the one or two in the LCS. While wasting our paper route $$ buying Leaf trying to hit a Thomas rookie. Those were the days!

SP RC’s will be in Hobby Lite Boxes only
Silver Packs with random SP RC’s will go out to buyers of hobby and jumbo boxes - 1 pack per box
Blasters are overpriced
Huge Topps screw up to always be remembered

Hey Brios, Just wondering if you are going to respond to my multiple messages about the pending balance on the card you agreed to buy from me on August 30th. I have been holding this card for you because you said you were going to buy it and even gave me a down payment.

Stop trying to create a fight or whatever it is

Keep it simple

I agree on the Blue/Green comment

But Orange in Baseball usually does go for more than gold.
