From the above, previously posted. Here is a genuine logo, in a Pacific release. Layered stitching. Tight batting. Pretty shiny blue sea filled with clean pointed stars. It also shows the neckline and outer stitching.

At one time, I owned nearly 200 Leaf Certified 1/1 NFL Logos. Everything was very consistent from 1998-2001. And then once more, when Reebok came out with the Equipment Shield when they took over the rights to the league.

Agreed. By the time they started prepping for the 2002 release, Brady was already a rising star in the league. And since they appeared to still be sourcing from that original 2000 gamer, Pacific did what many companies back then did with more valuable material.

They started pealing patches, in order to make more cards. You have plenty of multi-colored patches in the 2001 release. But by 2002, they started to peal the layers off, which gave them much more patch material to use in cards.

But it also meant no multicolored swatches in doing so.

These are what you would typically see. You can even see the stitch holes, as they cut each layer off to make more patches.

And not just in this set, but other 2002 Pacific patch sets

Ended up buying this one raw earlier this year, got lucky with PSA as seems like a PSA 9 is good grade for these.

Could be mistaken but think the star was from the Patriots logo. Obviously not as cool as an NFL shield though.

I cant see when they fell being an indicator, as it was just swatches from the patch bag. Shouldn't matter if it was number 1/101, 51/101 or 101/101.

But just looking at your patch, thats what us Old Heads called "The Bean" Look at the football, its much more of a bean shape then football shaped. The laces are way too sloppy. As are the stars. The biggest indicator it did not come off an NFL gamer, is the batting behind the design.

It should be plush, tightly woven and a bit shiny. Look at how the stars stand out on a real one. And look at how perfect and clean the lines are in the NFL.

The cheap way to make a logo, is an inline stitch. Which is what this Brady has. That is to say, insert different colored thread to make different colored images. In a real NFL logo back then, everything would have been layered and added. Which gives it a much cleaner look, and a 3D type raise due to the process.

We used to have a good time with these logos back on the Beckeett forms 20 years ago. And there was a great tutorial on what to look for.

the logo on the Brady, is off a hat, shirt or maybe a replica jersey. And it didn't matter who made the gamers for the teams. Addias, Reebok, Nike, Puma ETC. They all were (and still are) made in Rippon WI, and used the exact same shield per NFL specs.

Also adding, the typical tell with a fake patch, as noted prior, beyond the patch itself. Is placement. When its perfecting in there, to hide all edges and signs it wasnt cut from a gamer. That too is a red flag.
Wow - super interesting history and color. Thanks for taking the time to share!

There is clearly a NFL logo card out there from Tom Brady's rookie season jersey. Any guesses on how much it will be worth when it surfaces?

I don't know if you noticed but that star looks to be from the logo on his throwing arm. Logo patch from the right sleeve of Tom Brady's jersey must be worth a buck or two.

Thanks for the insight! Is there a way to identify the logo on the left vs right arm? It looks like both arms have the Patriots logo. (See link below)

BTW, we probably all wish we could go back in time and buy this jersey for ~$19K...

The tilt of the star is different on each shoulder. The right side of the star tilts on the right arm and the left side tilts on the left arm. I only know that because I’m a life long Pats fan. Fake jerseys on eBay had flat stars.

Here’s my best Brady jersey card. I bought it raw on EBay a couple years ago. When I bought it, they were giving these away.

Kinda want to try my luck with a box of Heads Update and see if I can pull a Brady.

Sadly I don't think these 2002 Fleer Box Score Yard Markers had patch variations.

Nope, they just blocked me. Complained because they sent a autographed and certified Stan Lee signed comic book in the mail in a paper mailer, no plastic to protect it and no cardboard on the inside. It showed up creased to hell. It was a gift for valentines day, so I didn't have time to replace it. Love makes you do stupid things.

Not a single care in the world. Then come to hear about their shill bidding habits. IDK how they are still on ebay.

I got a great Randy Moss patch. This is one of my favorite products to open. I have my Joey Harringron bobble head on my desk.

Keep up the hunt for those 2002 year Brady cards.
Good luck to all and keep me in mind if you end up with any rare Ashley Lelie cards.

Lol - I remember a couple years ago when I looked them up on that discount99 site and found them in a toy store for $30. I still wonder how many warehouses have cases of old stuff they don't even remember. I think the only bobbleheads I kept were Moss and Manning.

Ended up selling my 2002 Brady collection a little while ago. Think I was only missing 17 out of his 377 cards from that year. Makes me a little sick seeing what some of them go for now. C'est la vie.

Btw - don't want you to get in trouble. Don't think you're supposed to mention competitors deals here.

Wow - impressive knowledge! Thank you for sharing.

Nice card. Amazing what genuinely great items were selling for in the recent past.

I am curious how aware people are of the 2002 Gridiron Kings Gridiron Cut Collection Rod Smith Game Used Football card. According to the back, the footballs were used in the 10/28/2001 Broncos vs. Patriots game. Brady threw his first pick in that game. I tried doing some digging on that specific ball but completely whiffed. Obviously without Brady on the card most people won't care. Either way I think it's neat to own a piece from that season.

Yeah, even without Brady on the card and a first interception(s) game ball probably not the first item a QB collector would want... still a really neat item.

Looking back at those early 2000's memorabilia cards, it's just sad to see how manufacturers (Panini specifically) have really fallen off a cliff, regarding documentation.

Bought boxes of this stuff after seeing this thread.

No Brady but pulled nice multi color patches of Dunn, Alexander and Ricky Williams. Fun break for $100

Just opened a another box and hit a Marshal Faulk logo patch piece. That on top of a blue Brady parallel and a jersey number die cut. Another box on the way.

For those of you who opened boxes of 2002 Pacific Heads Update (I got one as well), did you find any non-Heads Update rookies? I wound up with 9 rookies from the 2002 Pacific set, card #'s between 506 - 522.

Awesome, thanks! The paranoid side of me for a moment thought it was a sloppy repack job. But the way the cards sort of bricked together in the packs and the fact there was a single Brady insert along with rookies of Carr (good in 2002) and Reed made me think probably not.
