I think the value modern graders went on strike.
What's the most recent date for entered i to the system anyone has seen it go to assembly in that category?

And just like that we finally hit I&D today.

My Modern is entered 3/22/21 and still in grading, seems to be behind the Value as that entered 3/22/21 has been in assembly for a few weeks.

1500+- spots x 5 cards=7500 $50 subs twice a week (Tuesday/Thursday), lots of boxes to be received in the warehouse. That sounds like a bottleneck to me. Not really sure why they are doing these promotions when there is still a multi-million card backlog that was submitted a year ago or more.

Because they’re doing 90/10 split right now. Backlog is at 6 million.

PSA did 775k in January. That’s 700k toward the backlog and 50k toward new subs. At 700k/month, that’s 8.6 months to finish. At 775k/month, that’s 7.7 months to finish. So no new subs would get the very back of the line their cards back 4 weeks earlier. Less of an impact for the people near the front.

And even if PSA did dedicate everything toward the backlog, everyone would still be complaining.

I’m pretty sure (don’t quote me exactly) they’re devoting 80% of resources to backlog and 20% to new stuff.

From a business standpoint, I see it as the right decision. You obviously must prioritize the backlog but you have to get the wheels churning again, and even limited allocated submissions are better than being closed.

That said, they’ve definitely hit a bottleneck of sorts but we’ll have to wait and see how long it lasts. Might (hopefully) get things back on track rather quickly

90/10 - I stand corrected. That’s even more resources devoted to the backlog.

Lenane said on the PSA podcast that they are at 90/10 right now. Maybe even closer to 95/5. But they will move toward 80/20 as time passes.

Revenue management. I'm willing to bet that even if you take the Marx default out of the equation, PSA is seeing an uptick in non-payment of completed subs based on whatever metric they track (year over year, quarter over quarter, etc.) that is likely going to increase over the next few months. People subbing at $50 / card today with a 3 month turnaround are more likely to pay when the bill comes due which will help them navigate a period where they will likely have more payment defaults.

This may also explain why UM seems to be seeing more of a focus now when the other Value levels have essentially stalled. Those are more likely to default given the players are more volatile and have been there for 12 months. PSA is ramping up to start having these Economy subs pop simultaneously with these UM subs.

It is clear and simple they are doing the 10% on new subs since they needed the extra revenue. Since they already have all of the backlog and dont give a crap about getting it done because no one can do anything about it.

Sheesh okay so even more than I thought. Thanks, I missed the podcast but I’ll make sure to run it back

You know the answer. They need to get the money flowing again. The backlog does not pay as quick and the price of those promotions make it profitable. It is not about customer service, but profits. IF it was about customer service, well people would not be waiting for over a year to get their cards back.

My 3/11 shipped and should arrive today, my 3/16 is grading.

Pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing the rookie graders are starting with Ultra Modern. I've seen a lot of second week of April orders in Assembly including one of my own. I believe the last entry date for any order is 5/17, suggesting PSA might only have five weeks of entry date backlog left to grade the Ultra Modern queue. If my hunch is right, some UM graders will have to get reassigned pretty soon.

I posted this somewhere else but will mention it again here I don't think five weeks last May equals five weeks now. I think the amount being entered into the system each day last year just before and after they shut it down might be more equal to four or five days of grading this year.

Yes...the newly hired graders get put into UM grading to develop their grading skills. So it would be logical once the higher priced UM value backlogged orders (they were $15 when the shutdown occurred?) are done, they will shift over to value modern/vintage (these were $10 at shutdown?).

A lot of people trying for allocations...but they may have only allocated a total of 2000 allocations (10,000 cards)...and not everyone uses up the full 5. So two allocations a week...max 20,000 cards but again, not the full 20,000 allocated would be used...say maybe 15-18k? They're grading 200k cards a week. If they're devoting 10% of workforce to new submissions, that would be 20k to express and higher plus the new economy (5 cards per allocation)...so the numbers are plausible.

Something must have happened in the past 30 days between modern and ultra modern since orders that were received together were moving together but now modern is stuck in grading with ultra modern completed and shipped back. It is almost a month behind now.
