Default 2022 Spidey Metal

Looks like the release date for these has been pushed again, it’s at March 30th as of now. Hopefully they are working out some of the QC issues that X-men Metal had. I’m not to upset about it, gives me a chance to save some money to buy some of my favorite characters.

Any idea how much this will cost on epack? Boxes are starting at a higher price compared to X-men metal.

There’s always more demand for Spider-Man product than X-men product. It will also depend on quality of product, for god sakes the red pmg’s were pink. Wtf….

Im sensing the demand for this set will be bonkers, lower quality or not. That chase for spidey/venom/carnage pmgs and inserts will drive up the demand.

I was thinking about buying two boxes and just holding them for a while. I could see them creeping up to north of $500 once those first few PMGs are listed and sold.

What's a good buy price on these presell?

I would guess anything less than $400 for a box at this point is a fair price.

It's astonishing how much these boxes are going for on presale compared to the x-men metal (which if I recall opened at around $160, when I bought 5, and then crept up to 250ish range at this point before release).

I like the Carnage high number depicted in the sell sheet with the blue background...off his first appearance cover in ASM 361. The pmg of that card will be super desirable.

Spider-man is driving the PMG craze in my eyes, only makes sense that a Metal product dedicated to the world of Spider-man would do great. Upper Deck has that Metal Universe product coming out with AWFUL looking photos of Jordan and I think that box was being presold for over $1k a box.

This is true, it's the perfect storm, spidey with pmgs, and UD and the retailers know it.

UD must be feeling pretty good about that Fleer acquisition way back in 2005. Clearly they are milking it well between Marvel, Hockey, and even Basketball. The metal brand is super handy to have. (not even mentioning the other brands like Marvel Masterpieces).

The PMGs had taken off before this latest significant uptick with spiderman.

6 months ago I was complaining when X-men metal boxes jumped to $200. Now I look back and laugh. What's the point in buying boxes anymore?

To be fair, the secondary market has driven X-Men boxes up to almost $500 and I feel like that set is weaker in terms of characters than Spider-Man. If I can land a case with my LCS, I'm seriously thinking of buying it and just waiting it out. Feel like that could be a decent gamble, especially if any characters have a RC PMG and that character takes off.

Spider-verse 2 should help keep the Spider-man pump going.

To chase a green spidey pmg to sell for like 15-20k.

Haha, no really, I imagine the gambling inclined will be attracted to this one, especially once it hits epack.

These metal boxes (both this and x-men) will almost surely go up in value holding sealed in the long run.

Yea I think you'd do well even just holding long term, as the supply of sealed boxes in the market dries up. This type of set should increase steadily unopened.

Imo the Spider-man is more top heavy than the X-men:

Spidey, Venom, Carnage, + any variants of Spiderman (miles morales, Spiderman 2099, ultimate spiderman etc)

vs

Wolverine, Deadpool

X-men does have some solid mid-tier characters like Gambit, psylocke etc, but still Spiderman is probably the superior set value-wise. The one thing hurting spiderman is his villains dont get a lot of hobby love...and there are a lot of them (x-men villains dont do any better).

Look at 2017 Fleer Ultra Spiderman. This set has attained almost legendary status with a lot of die-hard collectors out there- I'd argue surpassing even 2015 marvel retro in many ways.

Spider-Man has always had the best stable of villains. Doc Ock, Green Goblin, the Lizard, Kraven, Venom, Carnage, Sandman, etc.

My mistake I meant the non-Venom/Carnage villains.

It’s true Spidey has a slew of well-known villains, the first 20 issues in the ASM run are full of major villain 1st appearances one after the other.

But let’s be honest, how much hobby love does Sandman, Electro, Vulture, Doc Ock, Lizard, Scorpion, Kingpin, Kraven etc really get in terms of cards. Answer is not all that much. The two goblins Green Goblin and Hobgoblin do get some.

I do think overall the Spider-Man will have higher value though. A good comparison point is 2017 Ultra Spiderman vs 2018 Ultra X-Men (compare the PMGs for example). Also unopened boxes of the former sell for several multiples of boxes of the latter.

RC is such a sports card term, I think it's better to call it first appearance than rc.

LOL. the ol' "For the kids" complaint. Kids don't care about premium, ultra high end stuff or PMGs.

They still can collect and open product and they still do. Many millions of very inexpensive packs of cards from all types of sports and nonsports to be found out there. Ebay, LCS, flea markets. All over the olace across all sorts of price points and easy to be found.

45 year old man-childs looking for big scores for tiny amounts of money on the other hand? Well, those guys are SOL. It's pay to play in the big money card game.

it wasn't really a complaint, more of a social comment.

Cost on xmen metal was $64 a box. Im assuming it will be about the same for this set. Take that for what you will.

I thought I saw pre-sale boxes going for close to $400?
I'm not getting it.

Probably. If it isn't yet, it will be at some point in time.
