So do the team captains not pick the team anymore? This is going to be east vs west?

I like that fans have a vote, but it should probably be split 33/33/33 between media/coaches and players/fans.

Or even break out coaches and players separately and give everyone 25%

It's basically a formality. He will never be an AS again.

I wish they'd issue a single time status exemption and let SGA play the 3.

Thanks for repeating the company line but it's really for the players. They get paid, celebrated, fawned over, and then go out and do a mild layup line for 2 hours.

Lol they get that through out the year. It’s for the fans, fan heavy vote, it is what it is. Why I don’t put stock in x time all star for a player resume.

This is true, but it still makes me question... Who actually WANTS to watch Wiggins in an All-Star game...? Baffling.

Some interesting tid bits from the detailed result:

-98 media member voted for Eastern Front Court. All 98 ballots had Durant, Giannis, Embiid

-NBA Players ranked Jayson Tatum 6th, behind Miles Bridges and Jarret Allen. The hobby does not like this

-The biggest disparities in top 10 East Backcourt between Player vote and Fan Vote were Darius Garland (5th by players, 9th by fans),and Derrick Rose (14th by players, 8th by fans)

-The highest ranking rookie was Even Mobley at 14th (12th by players)

-Andrew Wiggins only got 4 out of a possible 98 media votes. Rudy Gobert was third with 65 votes.

-LeBron was 1st in Player, Fans, and Media votes

-Luka received zero media votes. He was fourth in player voting

-Biggest discrepancy in the West was Klay being 4th in Fan voting, 13th in playing voting

Wiggins was 5th in player votes, 3rd in fan and 6th in media…so let’s not act like this is some huge surprise.

Wiggins is a baffling pick but just having a look and there's literally nobody else.

What a season.

I think A. Edwards should be in over Wiggins.

A New Zealander :P

I voted Green, I think he's more important, though definitely not exciting. Surprised someone like KAT wasn't more popular.
Looking at the scoring leaders this season there really aren't that many Western frontcourt players up there. Wiggins is actually 17th in the West overall and 6th in frontcourt eligible players, plus he defends. Though he wouldn't be that high had Klay been available all season.
It's just a weird, almost certain one-off to make him not only an All-Star in general, but a starter too.

So the state with the most people had a player voted in. Will wonders never cease?

Amazing how numbers can be used to make any point.

People talk about Wiggins like he's some chump. He's shooting 40% from 3 and one of the best perimeter defenders in the league by the advanced metrics (any many think he's better by the eye test).

Starting? Well that's a quirk of the positional restrictions, injuries, and the popularity of the Warriors.

It is extremely common for the #3 guy on one of the league's best teams to get the all star nod over someone with good stats on a bad team.

And yes, there are Andrew Wiggins fans out here. Warriors fans, Canadians, Kansas fans--if you've been on Wiggins island the whole time this is in awesome to see. Andrew Wiggins--All Star Starter. Take that take that take that. And well, let's just say he's going to turn some heads in April, May and June.

I do find it rather amusing the Wiggins clectors (bag hodlers) are celebrating this technicality of a selection.

This will be the only AS of his career.

At least he's not the worst starter in the entire league anymore and he's productive.

I'll just say that JJJ is much more responsible for his team's record than Wiggins is for his.
