It's incredible how many shady people permeate this hobby. Not the grader, but the guy sending away a 30 cent insert to get slabbed because he obviously thinks its more likely to trick someone in the case.

I'm looking forward to the day sportscards have their own " Fake or Fortune" show just like they have in the art world.
50 years from now: " Evan here has brought us a US300. Hi Evan". Hello. Now Evan you inherited this card from your grandfather who was said to be a boisterous and gregarious BO member who loved a player widely considered to be the best ever, Juan Soto? Yes, that's correct. And you want to find out whether this Juan Soto US300 is real or one of the many faked copies? That's correct. Well Evan, if it does prove to be a genuine US300 you might be looking at a 7 figure card here? Great. But if not, it may only be worth a few dollars. I understand. I just have to know. Ok, Evan, we will send the card off to our experts and get it extricated from that... slab I believe it's called. Slab. That's right. Yeah. Slab, haha. Thanks Evan. Alright folks. Tune in next week to find out whether Evan has a real authentic US300 Juan Soto! Goodnight everyone. |

Slabbing increased hobby corruption 100 fold.

For sure. Without authenticators, there would be no forgers.

Good evening everyone and welcome back to Fake or Fortune Sportscards Edition.
And here once again we have Evan Goodbody from Florida. Welcome back Evan. Great to see you again. Hello. Thanks for having me. Now Evan, before we reveal what our experts thought of the US300 you submitted to our team could you tell us a little bit about your grandfather. We know that he was a member of the famous BO boards and a Juan Soto super collector but apparently he was also a "Nuclear Samurai"! Yeah, that's right. Grandad fought in WWIII in the 2020's. He was part of a joint Japanese/American battalion which hit the beaches of mingwong province following a nuclear strike on Beijing. Place was radioactive AF. He was cooked the moment he set foot on the beach. Sally the show host nods gravely. Grandad and all the men were forever referred to as "Nuclear Samurai". He hated the place. Sorely missed his Juan Soto collection. Although, I believe your grandfather did take some Juan Soto cards with him when he went off to China. Not cards exactly. They were Juan Soto coins, or buttons or something. His good luck charms. Pulled them from a blaster. Sounds like a great man. Evan tears up. Alright Evan. Please. Take a moment to compose yourself. I'm alright. He loved BO so much did, grandad. Said the card market would've been nothing without it. All the pumping and that. Right. He said they managed to pump a Trout US175 to $5000 at one point. Sally laughs. That's crazy Evan! That was a lot of money back then! Grandad thought so too. That's why he collected Soto. Plus Soto was much better. Indeed he was. Thank you Evan. Wonderful story. Are you nervous? A little. We have the results back.... OK It's... a... genuine Juan Soto. How good is that! Amazing! I don't know what to say. Thanks Sally. Ok everyone. That's it for tonight. We'll be back next week with another episode of Fake or Fortune Sports Card Edition. |

![]() This is the favorite of my collection. I sent in a number of patterns of this card at the same time, and not only does this card have the auto slab, it is labeled without the pattern name. What's worse is I have another mislabeled card whose label should be on this one....makes me wonder if the grade for this one was due for the other card and somehow got swapped. Given the enormous number of mistakes like this, I wouldn't be surprised. |

A quick glance at an oblique angle to the surface can always resolve the difference between a real and facsimile autograph. Why is this so difficult for TPGs?

If they can’t detect a facsimile auto, what’s the likelihood they could detect fake non-facsimile autos???

Grading companies should serve one function: authenticate the card/autograph.
