I think you are intentionally missing the point of the majority of the criticism in an effort to be supportive to your fellow Project 70 artists.

Someone needs to do a distinctive delivery subset. Spahn, Marichal, Nomo would be good ones. Dontrelle? Mitch Williams? Dan Quisenberry?

Trout sold out obviously. Piazza and Munson available. Passing though.

Besides, I don't think the Trout NEEDS the backstory. In fact, I can't wrap my head around why someone who likes the Acuna wouldn't like this. It's different but still has the same vibe and he's clearly making a themed set here. Maybe I just can't relate because I was familiar with his art before P70?

As for other cards that "need" a backstory (Don C Sanders, Skee's set)---obviously, the inspiration of these cards makes them mean more to certain people than others. There's nothing wrong with that. That also isn't going to convince someone who doesn't like it to like it--and that's fine too.

For me, the shock/awe factor with the Acuna was unlike anything in P2020 or P70. So far out there, it was an instant classic. I think only those genuinely frightened or disturbed with the horror element would not be impressed.

Now, that shock factor has worn off somewhat with the Trout (backstory or not). It is a great rendition, and the artistry is well...awesome. However, the effect it has on me is diluted.

There can only be one opportunity to make a first impression, and Pardee nailed it with Acuna. Trout just feels like it might be riding that wave instead of forging its own identity.

Now we’re talking!

Throw Fernando and Johnny Cueto in the mix.

Luis Tiant! There are so many of these that we could make a list for the rest of day. Interesting set idea, but no one really cares about pitchers.

Any tips for getting the page with artist proof cards to actually show up?

This one, I want to hate, but it's pressing all the right buttons: Piazza as a Met, 1975 design, prominent Mr Met.

Thanks for the info - I dont mind a 5 card subway tile series subset, glad it's not the whole artist run.

I did originally like the Jeter, but didn't wind up buying it despite liking the novelty of the mosaic idea.
Agree with all the reasons to buy above, and... landed a AP of the Piazza today, no bot needed!!

It's been hit or miss for me. No rhyme or reason for when/how it loads. Today I hit Artist Proof filter and changed the sort order in list form and they showed up. Was able to add both Piazza and Munson to cart but Trout was insta sold out.

I agree. A huge part of my criticism has to to with the fly by nighters who “create” art by poorly editing a couple of photos and a Topps card design in Photoshop and call it a day. I think it’s disrespectful to card collectors who they think will buy into that and to the artists (like Efdot) that pour their blood, sweat and tears into their work. Art doesn’t have to be physically laborious but it should leave a piece of the artist’s soul on the “canvas” when done.

They finally appeared on a Topps page for me....10-15 minutes after others. I mean there were no artists proofs on the P70 page and no link to sort them and on an on.

Me too. But I figure the aftermarket price will eventually drop since there were 15k printed.

Agreed. But don't see why David Wells can't be in the bleachers of all of Keith Shore's Yankees cards drinking some Mikkeller.

For people complaining about artists using photoshop, I recommend you research the NFT art boom going on. Christie’s Auction just sold a Beeple for $69 million which is basically a jpeg made with photoshop. There are photoshop art selling for $10k, $100k, $1 million and more from relatively unknown artists. And most use Photoshop as their medium

Fair expectation for the artists. Though, I think you should keep in mind that not all of the P70 contributors are artists.

In fact, I believe that falling short of your expectation actually disqualifies it as art and should therefore be viewed/critiqued differently.

Huge Twins fan and I'm sure you know Puckett cards really dried up after the the last phase of his life ... you're probably not going to see any Chuck Knoblauch cards either.

Looking forward to Tony Oliva, Rod Carew & Harmon Killebrew in any uniform though!

I saw an interview with him and it made me question even more why someone paid that much for it other than cough money laundering cough. He was quite clear that you only own the token and he retains all the copyrights.
