Question 1969 Topps Mickey Mantle - Font Thickness/Thinness?

I recently acquired two 1969 Topps Mickey Mantle cards from a reputable LCS. While both aren't in the best condition, upon further inspection i noticed the font on the back of one of them was thinner than the other. Below is a picture showing the back of both of them. Hoping this great community can help explain the difference. I do know this set had some issues with printing but while trying to do research on "font thickness/thinness", I couldn't find anything.

I'm also happy to upload more pictures, thanks in advance!

Interesting, can you post a pic of the fronts (I can see the pics you posted)? I never heard of any font size variations for 1969 Topps.

I'm not an expert Bro, but they both look ok. I recall seeing a fake one of these and it was pretty obvious. I own a beater version of this card raw and mine more resembles the lighter version of your two cards FWIW. Give them the smell test and if they check out I think you're ok.

Yes, thank you for the feedback, the lighter version is similar to another that I sent to PSA over the summer. The darker one is the one with thinner font and while I don’t think it’s worth any more/less, was curious if this was common or not. Thanks again for your feedback!

It may just be over-inking, and not a bold-face font. Printing was done very fast and ink levels in the machines were variable over the print run.

That’s a great point. I just put them under a loupe to see and they both appear 100% authentic but just over inked on one. Tempted to send them in for grading but not in a rush. Especially with one already at PSA that I think is much sharper...

footuor, Vanmar, sanbora, DrakeHeyman, and the mysterious 'Innstas' are my favorite members here. I check daily to see if they have put out new posts or edited their old posts to include links. I can't figure out if Innstas is banned or if Vanmar created it. I can't find any other proof of Innstas.
