Rightfully so.
If you own one or several various MJ Stars than you can finally feel justified.

If you are still on the fence about a nice BGS slab now is the time.

The 101 and 117 and any other 84/85 MJ Stars should be the pinnacle of any NBA card collection.

To see the 101 sit behind trash players Modern RPAs is foolish and a no brainer investment in my opinion.

To see it sit behind some inserts is also baffling.

I say spread away with your false info!

I'm missing a few, but love the variety of colors in the different star Jordans:

The 85 Star 117 is nice, but the price of it ( BGS 9.5) is out of reach for many people already. Maybe these cards will catch the 86 Fleer someday but for now I think it's still not too late to grab a nice copy of the 86 Star Jordan, these are still so undervalued even comparing with the 88 Fleer Jordan. In fact, these were the official NBA licensed product published in the same year with 86 Fleer, so they are MJ's rookie cards for sure as long as we take 86 Fleer as the rookie cards.

You can still pick up the 117 in a lower grade for a more reasonable price, but it's rising fast pretty much across the board.

Thanks for the advise, but I still prefer buying one in 9.5 condition, if my pocket doesn't meets the requirement, I would move up to the next year's cards which I found there are still plenty of choices for the following year Star.

As a kid in the 80’s I saw pictures of the Star Jordans, but never encountered any at my local card shops. As an adult I’m thrilled to have a second chance at these intriguing cards.

My first post on the forum all. Looking forward to getting acquainted with everyone...

Tell you the truth, I really miss the time when this hobby was more likely being a hobby rather than a capital or stock market. I think most of collectors here have made their collection increased in value year by year, however that is a good sign to see which shows the hobby is developing in a health environment, but with more and more collectors and investors coming in, the pool is getting so huge which brought almost everything so high that not ordinary collector could fit in easily as before. It's really hard to say this is good or no good. For the Star Jordan as an example, I talked to several of my friend who are also Jordan fans and told them it's about time to grab a Star Jordan while it's not too late. They interacted immediately but the sad thing is they can't afford any Star Jordan in a BGS 9.5 slab but have no choice to move down lower graded ones, but the saddest thing happened which they found themselves pocket short even for lower graded ones. Please don't blame them since not everybody can spend multi hundreds or thousands dollars on cards, but back in the day, $500 could buy a good copy of any Jordan rookie. I think those days were long gone...

I'm thinking about finally pulling the trigger on a Star, and I have my eye on this one. Unfortunately the 117 is out of reach. What are your thoughts on this one?

My only graded Star MJ. The the way it looks without the black border I also have the entire 1986 Star Michael Jordan set raw. Only a few are grade-worthy but who knows if they go up in value that may change.

One of my goals this year is to unload other cards and put the money into Star and early Fleer MJs.

I think the card is nice which is only 0.5 away from gem mint, but I think there is an another gem mint one on listing for $2500, why don't you grab that one then?

That one has a starting bid of $2500 and isn't a Buy it Now for that price. Also, maybe he can't spend that much for a Gem Mint copy. You can buy cards in other grades, you know.

I think the gap between 9.5 and 9 for 86 Star Jordan is still quite close comparing to any other 80s Jordan cards, so I would definitely try to win that one or communicate with the seller for a shot. Among the 86 Star Jordans, the Best of the New hasn't really increased much since they were selling for around 1k years ago. I checked the history record, the 86 Best of the New sometimes even sold a little more than 85 Star 117 at the same period of time. I just picked up one last week for a quite comfortable price.

Well maybe I'm wrong but I could of sworn a certain number of fake/trimmed

star cards got in before bgs was trained and the fact that psa won't grade them

threw me off. I also thought jordan autos with a 0008 cert were suspect but I

could be wrong.

I do believe the real 101s are grossly undervalued, I was just saying in my

opinion what it has going against it. Not trying to start an argument or

anything

There is no need for an argument anymore since the Star Jordans are getting welcomed by more and more collectors right now. Before the 86 Fleer exploded, the Star Jordans were overshadowed by misconceptions; at the time, only the "professional" collectors were able to judge cards' authenticity, so most collectors like myself stayed away from Star Jordans. Since the 86 Fleer and even the Stickers are exploded right now, there are a lot ordinary collectors like myself start to focus on other Jordan rookies, so the Star Jordans are my choices. I read as many related articles and learnt necessary knowledges in order not to get fooled. Just like many other said, trimmed or fake cards are also existing in 86 Fleer. The reason why 86 Fleer didn't went down like Star cards was because the Fleer was a much stronger company with much more fanbase. The battle of Jordan rookies was brutal. As we fans, we want more choices and affordable price. I have both 86 Fleer rookies and Star rookies (not 101) in my collection, so I am not against any of them. I am just trying to say what I felt about Star Jordans.

It's true, but for Star cards, I would pick the ones graded first.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to spend an extra 1200 for the .5 grade. I would love to, but just not an option right now. I think the value of this BGS 9 is pretty good compared to the rest of the market. Odd that this card hasn't increased in value much!

Grab it. The 86 Star best of the new really hasn't increased much since these BGS 9 used to sell around few hundreds years ago.
