I like it, total number of sets possible is down to 4,500. I bet it goes down further with wave 4, then interest jumps way up with a strong wave 5 checklist.

I can't take credit for this, but someone posted in the t206 facebook group, so sharing:

"I've figured out the error in the Wave 4 Checklist URL:

The "#4" needed to be replaced with "%234".

See if that helps for those of you trying...

I think it will go down with wave 4 also. It has a strong checklist overall, but I'm not sure if there is anything there that will spark interest more than the first 3 waves. I am excited by the Braves love they are showing with 4 more in this wave. Did not expect Fried or Glavine to show up. Acuna is a lock for wave 5, and I'd wager on Maddux. If they could sneak in Smoltz or Andruw Jones, I'd be thrilled.

This may be right, but I still can't get the checklist to load on the Topps website and it doesn't match up with the team names on the Series 4 product page. Most of the former team names don't match - no Expos, no Florida Marlins (or any Marlins, for that matter), no Milwaukee Braves, no New York Giants, and no Brooklyn Dodgers. Are the team name listings on the product page supposed to identify the teams for the particular wave, or the product as a whole (i.e., all 5 waves)?

i can see wave 5 checklist being incredible and also falling short of expectations simultaneously. definitely more than 50 players deserving of being in this set, so that's the tough part. it will be interesting to see how much they capitalize on 2020's early success stories (aaron civale, trent grisham, etc.) or if they've had this 250-card checklist locked in since day 1.

other prominent names off the top of my head:

darvish
jose ramirez
gallo
swanson
chapman
suarez
verlander
nola
bumgarner
etc.

and that's just the tip of the iceberg. it will be really interesting to see how much topps leverages who got off to a hot start in 2020 (grisham, civale, lynn, chatwood, gray, bauer, etc.)

rookies (maybe only like 4 or 5 of these?):

may
rios
sheffield
javier
staumont
kwang-hyun kim
akiyama
tsutsugo
kieboom
tromp
etc.

I made guesses a while ago and did pretty well, but just deleting the ones that showed up in this wave and using the relative proportions I used for that one, here's what Series 5 might look like.

7 Rookies

• Bichette, Blue Jays
• May, Dodgers
• Grisham, Padres
• Cease, White Sox
• Robert, White Sox
• Dubon, Giants
• Hilliard, Rockies

12 Legends

• Banks, Cubs
• Mays, Giants
• Jeter, Yankees
• Carew, Twins
• Murray, Orioles
• Gibson, Cardinals
• Ichiro, Mariners
• Mathewson, Giants
• Carlton, Phillies
• Yount, Brewers
• Bagwell, Astros
• Helton, Rockies

31 remaining base

• Acuna, Braves
• DeGrom, Mets
• Nola, Phillies
• Soto, Nationals
• Strasburg, Nationals
• Rizzo, Cubs
• Suarez, Reds
• Molina, Cardinals
• Flaherty, Cardinals
• Bumgarner, Diamondbacks
• Betts, Dodgers
• Buehler, Dodgers
• Devers, Red Sox
• Meadows, Rays
• Guerrero, Jr., Blue Jays
• Gurriel, Jr., Blue Jays
• Giolito, White Sox
• Ramirez, Indians
• Perez, Royals
• Merrifield, Royals
• Arraez, Twins
• Altuve, Astros
• Verlander, Astros
• Greinke, Astros
• Ohtani, Angels
• Chapman, Athletics
• Semien, Athletics
• Gallo, Rangers
• Minor, Rangers

I've only included 29 in the last set, so there's a couple of spots left for anyone I missed.

I think Civale and Grisham could both be in regardless. They weren't the biggest name rookies early on, but both were in Series 1 and Heritage and would presumably have merited consideration even if they didn't consider performance to date. I think you could easily substitute Civale for someone like Dubon or Hilliard in my list above.

I've gotten most of these guys, but Darvish, Swanson, Chapman, and Bauer could all be in too. I had Bauer on a previous list, but I think it became harder to squeeze him in after they already included Gray (I'm pretty sure I saw his name on the Series 4 checklist). As a Cubs fan, I would be shocked if they included Chatwood (although I certainly hope we're having a different conversation about him next year that makes the case for him based on his Cy Young and World Series MVP awards). And Lynn had a top-5 Cy Young season last year so I'd argue he should be in based on his performance last year, not this year, although his performance thus far this year blows away what he did last year.

Kieboom has his rookie cards in 2019 products I believe and hasn't done enough to get in without the RC logo given that a bunch of guys who have a significant track record at the major league level are going to be omitted. My understanding is that most of the players who have debuted this year (like Javier, for example) are not eligible unless they signed a pro contract earlier this year (which is how Robert and some of the Japanese guys got into Series 2), although I'm no expert on those rules. I'd add Evan White - who qualifies for the same reason - as another rookie we might see in Series 5.

the rookie eligibility stuff for this year melts my already moldy brain

One thing I have noticed recently is that the prices for American Beauty and Polar Bear cards of decent players seem to be creeping up in price. This seems less true for the Cycle backs and less rare parallels. I'm guessing some people are doing Polar Bear sets and not many people are Cycle set builders. Player collectors might be concentrating on the rarest non 1/1 back. The Black Plate Omissions are hot commodities straight out of the gate too, but Old Mill backs get little to no love. This is all just my perception based on searching for specific players each day. Anyone else noticing any trends?

Just got my series 2 delivered today, finally. I haven’t really paid all that much attention but I knew the ty Cobb back was gonna be a solid card, didn’t know it was a 1/1 tho. I only opened four boxes, got Stanton Cobb back, Griffey Jr sovereign back and Ripken sweet caporal back. I’m not very upset about the tardiness of the shipping any longer.

So with no cycle in wave 4, this means that only Piedmont, Sweet Caporal, Sovereign, and American Beauty are in all the waves so far. Does anyone know if all of these will return for wave 5?

Just opened my 8 wave 2 packs, as far as rare backs these blew my 10 from wave 1 away. Got all wave 2 RCs, I'm only missing 7 base, which is pretty good, wave 1 I had 5 missing from 10 packs, and again, same as my first set of packs, the cards I'm missing, I got all of them in a variant back.

Highlights
Joey Votto Cycle/25 - first Cycle
Eric Thames Polar Bear - first Polar, was really wanting one
Sovereign - Shane Bieber
Sweet Caporal - Max Muncy, Sandy Koufax
Piedmonts of note - Honus Wagner, 2x Albert Pujols, 2x Koufax, Ozzie Smith, Stanton

If anyone has these extra base and is trading, I have extra base from wave 1 and 2 for trade, would ideally like to get them all from one person to make it easy. Thanks!

Shane Bieber
Sandy Koufax
Max Muncy
Rickey Henderson
Tommy Pham
Albert Pujols
Jose Abreu

Anyone know anything about these Honus Wagner variations from Series 2? I assume print run is low, like 5 or 10?

This is not the Black Plate Omission right?

(neither of these auctions are mine)

woah! i was waiting for something like this to happen. that's wild. it would really help to know where in the pack they were pulled, as in, back of the pack? is it being treated like a SP insert? or is it truly just a base card?

FYI, obviously $2,500 or $5,000 is insane, but this one already has a starting bid at $85: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2020-Topps-...s/392901483977

I'd guess between 10 and 25 for the Wagner variation with two on the bay right now and at least one mentioned here, unless that is one of the ones up for auction. There is the chance(slim?) that these are getting overlooked.
