Topps does that for similar offerings like Topps Total so the print run should be known a day or so after the clock expires.

I bet licensing issues interfere, but I would love to see some sort of "Southern Leaguer" homage to the original T206.
For those not aware, the Southern league subset in the initial T206 run was minor leaguers produced at a substantially lower print run. Most of the guys made little to no impact in the major leagues, but hold a significant premium (Southern Leaguers outsell the low tier Hall of Famers). Would be fun to see a complete set requiring a Southern League equivalent, with heavily shortprinted but obscure players. |

anyone else think that with all the 'project 2020' buzz/hoopla that this will fall through the cracks (so to speak) and have a relatively low print run??

Nope. I think all the project 2020 hype has probably made people buy a ton of this hoping to see similar gains as the early p2020 stuff. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

also, only around 540 packs sold/announced on this thread. obviously, I know that is faaarrr from everyone but, it doesn't look to be causing much excitement other than from a handful... I am stoked for it and intend to collect. Just curious what everyone thought. appreciate your input!!! Last edited by lzylghtn; 05-30-2020 at 07:38 AM. |

And to the 543 number, there are A LOT of people that don't speak up about what/how much they bought for things like this. They want to play it close to the vest just in case these are short printed.

This was on the heels of people nearly doubling their money (for a while) on Bowman First Edition. There was lots of interest when it was posted, and you can see people early on thinking there was absolutely no downside to ordering. I think 50k packs is likely.

Reasons for lack of excitement about this:
1) 10 cards for $15+tax 2) No indication of odds on "hits" 2a) Odds on stuff like the rarest parallels and auto will surely be long and get longer the more that get sold 3) Long lead time 4) Distractions by P2020, Bowman, and things that are actually on the market 5) Direct sales pack-based products have always been met with bland responses until the cards actually come out, then people go crazy for them 6) Wide sales window gives people no impetus to buy until the very end 6a) If they suddenly went off sale, or supplies don't last, people would freak out and presale prices will spike as people chase what they say they planned to buy on the last day 7) Topps 206 was great in 2002, but the 2010 version was a big meh, and it appears to still be meh 8) Last but definitely not least, minis are not everyone's cup of tea All that said, I think this could be a big sleeper. I've always wondered what it was like collecting Topps through 1973 when sets came in 3-6 series. It seems like it would have been exciting, though obviously the 2020 card market is a completely different universe from 1952-1973. Once the first series sales close, and especially if they announce a print run, the ROMO will hit hard. There are questions that can only be answered over time. I'd be curious if whatever excitement of wave 1 creates carries through to the end. Will each series sell more than the previous one? Will there be a tailing off if people don't perceive value or the hits are really tough to come by? Is there going to be someone included on the checklist that has no other cards? Will there be any of Topps' unannounced value-adds like additional rare parallels or special inclusions (coupon for a free P2020 or Living Set or something)? |
