I've enjoyed "The Last Dance" like everyone else. I also only collect BGS 9+ cards 1999 and older so I'm on eBay daily looking for interesting things.
The first thing I noticed that Jordan cards are going through the roof. I was looking at a 86 Fleer BGS 9 at $8100 and climbing, with the 1987 and 1988 Fleer versions also doubling or more in price. I had been in the market for an 88 Fleer Jordan in a 9 for a while now, and they always went for between 50 and 80 dollars. You can kiss those prices goodbye. Now we're at $150+, with PSA versions $200+. I was even more dumbfounded when I did a search on 88 Pippen rookies in mint grades. I was lucky to pick one of them up less than a year ago for $51 in a BGS 9. Now they are going for $400+ with PSA versions at $500+. Dennis Rodman, same thing. I bought a beautiful BGS 9 in October for $21. The last one sold for $150. Again, PSA versions even higher. Can this madness continue? Did it take a documentary to remind people that these players were great? So much for the virus killing card prices. If nothing else, the stuff I collect has gone UP in the last two months.

I bought a PSA 9 Rodman a couple years ago for something like $20. I'm not really a fan of his but I thought it would be cool to have his rookie as part of my collection and thought maybe I'll be able to sell it for $50 or so down the road... Just sold the card for $225 on ebay a few days ago and some are going higher than that.
My new dilemma is deciding what to do on my 86-87 stash of non-Jordan rookies. I bought 8.5 BGS Malones and Olajuwons a few years ago for under $100 and now they're going for 2.5-4x of that. My long term belief is that these cards will be worth thousands in 15-20 years but I think they've ran up a ton and will pull back. Probably just going to hold onto them but prices are getting crazy across the board... can't believe what Lebron base prizms are going for. And all the Zion rookie craziness just reeks of Jose Canseco rookies in the 80's. Sadly FOMO will probably keep me from selling. |

dammit rodman was a worker! In that era, i totally respect the "worm", how he slithered into spots, went behind the basket to sneak to the other side, and changed his hair color before every human now thinks blue hair is attention getting.

It's 2005. I'm a junior in college. I stop into a card shop. I open three packs of SP Authentic. I pull a Jordan/Pippen/Rodman Triple SOTT Auto /15. I sell it for $1,500 and it covers a lot of my tuition that semester.
How much is that card worth now? |

Do you know that Steve Kerr never made a single start in his entire 5 years in Chicago? In fact, he only had 30 starts in 15 seasons; 20 of them in 1991.
