100% agree. As a Chiefs fan and Mahomes collector, it was this or the Red that were the top priorities for Optic rookies.

On another note, just picked up 2 Mahomes Galactics. This parallel has reached iconic status in basketball and I expect that to eventually affect how they're valued in football. Super thrilled to add these to the collection. Personally, I'm enjoying going after genuinely rare 2nd and 3rd year stuff, which goes for the same prices as common graded rookie stuff.

psa 10s for around 300 aint bad. i bid on one, seller has 1 feedback. 5 minutes after bidding a 0 feedback outbids me, as he has done with everyone with good, large feedback #'s. skeptical of this turn of events. told the seller i was on to the little upbid scam. done with him. ebay is becoming very shady.

Agreed. Just purchased a 2017 disco prizm Mahomes on eBay and the seller sent me the regular prizm. I sent a note back to the seller with pics letting them know that they sent the wrong one, but haven’t gotten a response yet. The seller notes that they don’t accept returns, but I assume that eBay will step in if there is a fraudulent transaction right? This is the second time this has happened in the last month on a Mahomes prizm (first time seller sent me a card with the factory dimple, which was not noted in the original listing or evident in the picture). It’s definitely a buyer beware market…

I definitely don't mind buying raw cards...but stories like this encourage me to buy already slabbed cards.

Can you send a pic of your Mahomes fire burst? I haven't seen that card. I recently picked up the base, red #299, and color burst versions. The color burst is my favorite from the phoenix line thus far.

That is currently the only Optic RC I have of him. I do love the look of it.

When things like this happen, it certainly makes me reevaluate the strategy of purchasing raw cards. However, I would say the majority of my raw card transactions have gone smoothly. With that being said, I have certainly begun to focus more on purchasing slabbed cards to mitigate the fraud / “Not as advertised“ factor

Last time I checked, federal law enforcement was only investigating massive fraud in the graded card segment of the hobby, but maybe this has changed.

I am in the midst of “re-immersing” myself into the hobby, as I’ve been out for the last decade. The hobby has certainly evolved...Looks to be as healthy as ever though, which is great. I have a couple of young kids that are starting to get hooked, which is bringing me back into the fray.

Never thought I'd be buying after a SB win, but I will be adding this off season. If you were gonna spend $5k on Pat what would be your card? I already have more prizm, optic, and xrc's than I "want". Thinking about something different.

No idea what they are going for (I don't have one), but I would say contenders.

And if you do not already have a red retail prizm or red optic /99 (optic is less than your budget big time) I would go for those.

There is a raw red retail on eBay currently, but it is pretty beat up.

The great thing is that you can likely expect any decent investment in Mahomes to appreciate right now. I’d be looking for more rare, low numbered cards instead of the standards.

Go get a bgs 9.5/10 contenders optic rookie ticket auto, imo better looking than the regular contenders, limited to only 300, and about half have graded out with only 9 autos. watch out for the psa graded ones, a lot of those have the streaky auto.

I know the vertical is considered the base rookie, but the horizontal is a lot more SP IIRC.
