We still need to vote if we're going to try to do an online draft (will take a good amount of time, and can be hard to make sure everyone can be there at the same time, but then it's done more quickly) or offline (will span a few weeks, but don't need to make sure everyone's online at the same time)

I would vote for an online draft. I am pretty much free everyday after 2 pm pst...and free on weekends.

But we got awhile until we really need to discuss a draft time of course.

I will note that if we're going with ESPN, I will strongly prefer offline drafts after this year. ESPN has absolutely no way of handling keepers with draft picks associated, and it would be a major pain to try to do an online draft with that. This first draft won't matter so much since there's no keepers yet

I would say for guys picked off FA start at round 15. I do the same thing in a fantasy football league where guys are picked up off FA and honestly we are looking to change it because it is a problem. Think about getting Trout for a 15 when he first came up. That manager would still have a significant advantage, and I think that's just not right. I had several leagues last year where, because they were sitting online when the news broke, teams got Bellinger as soon as he was called up. It's just not always fair to people who aren't sitting on a computer all day.

I have no problem trying Fantrax if you want to go that route. I don't care. Whatever is easiest for you to manage and limits your time would be my vote.

I should be able to online draft any night.

I think I'm leaning towards agreeing with you at this point. The biggest issue I see is with the prospects since I'm guessing most won't be on roster until they're called up. Something else we could do is accelerate the rate at which costs increase. For example, if you took someone in rounds 15-25 and want to keep them, they'll cost you 3 rounds higher, 10-15 is 2 rounds higher, and 2-10 is one round higher. It'd complicate things a bit, but help lessen the prospect problem too, especially if we start off FAs at costing a round 15 pick

In all honesty, Fantrax would probably be much easier, if we want to be able to do online drafts. ESPN simply has no way of handling keepers with different costs attached, so online drafts would be an absolute mess. I'm sure Fantrax has that capability. But, if we do offline drafts (which would be cool with me, they're fun), then it doesn't matter which platform we use. I know most people have preferred ESPN so far, and that is where I have the most experience and comfort, but we would be sacrificing our ability to have online drafts. Is everyone alright with that?

What does everyone think about each of these rules for FA keepers? I'm talking individually, we wouldn't use all of them together (though maybe 2 of them combined). Just trying to figure out which route we want to take-
  • FAs cost a 15th round draft pick to keep
  • Players that would cost between a 18-25th round pick cost a draft pick 3 rounds higher, 10-17th round picks cost a pick 2 rounds higher,
  • You can only keep a player if they have MLB experience (i.e. no keeping prospects until they've played in the bigs)

Trying to get a bit more feedback on this stuff so we can put it in ink, start collecting dues, and set a draft date

I agree with the first and third points. Second point I think anybody you draft in those rounds should keep that same round value. If you were smart enough to draft the player and keep them all year, you should be rewarded for that.

That's how I'm leaning too. I think those two rules would do a pretty good job at allowing what makes sense and preventing loopholes. Hoping to hear from a few more people before officially adopting that rule, though

I am ok with whatever is the consensus but I am always of the opinion that one should be able to keep whomever they like regardless of major league experience. Keeping a player who hasn't played a single second in the bigs should be my prerogative. It's a high risk philosophy that mirrors what a few major league teams do.

I am here for the fun, and not to worried about how you decide to do it. It does seem However you do it, we all will have the same chance for an advantage or disadvantage. I really don't see a issue with keeping prospects, however maybe I would later down the road.

Ok, haven't heard any more feedback, so we'll roll with what we got. We'll modify keeper rules as the following:

-Players will cost a draft pick in one round higher than where they were taken in the previous year's draft. Players selected in the first round cannot be kept

-If you pick someone up from free agency or by waivers, they will cost a 15th round pick to keep

-Players without MLB experience cannot be kept

-Same rules as before still apply if you want to keep multiple players that would cost a pick from the same round

These rules go with what we've had the most popular opinion for, and I think this does a good job at preventing someone that's out of it by midseason by picking up the top prospects that haven't debuted yet and being able to keep all of them for years without ever costing significant draft picks

I believe now we've covered everything. I'll set us up on LeagueSafe and start collecting email address to invite everyone so we can start getting those payments in

Can you double check that? LeagueSafe is only showing payments from Viking, Ray, ksemmel, jacfire, and Poonchka
