Default (ESPN) Sources: Kevin Durant willing to take less than max to keep Warriors' core

Kevin Durant willing to take less than max to keep Golden State Warriors core intact

"Durant's gesture would allow the Warriors to keep their entire core together for years to come. That's even if star point guard Stephen Curry signs one of the first five-year, 'supermax' contracts under the new collective bargaining agreement in which a team can reward one designated veteran per year with a contract starting at 35 percent of next year's projected $101 million salary cap."

Called this ~8 months ago...

Cleveland fans take to the street to protest. Only they should be able to sign everybody. Lebron will probably take Cp3 and head to NY or something.

Losing Klay would hurt them quite a bit. I'm curious to see how long they can keep all of these guys together though.

Fair enough. Every fan base has them and it makes the sane fans that don't look at this as life or death look bad.

To be clear I wish the CBA didn't allow this either. If it were up to me, there would be a hard cap and no restriction where you had to offer certain amounts. Everyone gets 100 million, spend it however you want and then don't cry about it. I would also institute Bill Simmons idea of a non playoff team tournament where the order starting with the winner would determine the draft so we could create more winners and reward people who try to win than this race to the bottom mentality. You take a team like Portland who was an 8 seed, they win, draft someone like Anthony Davis, boom new contender within 2 years.

West coast team regular season basketball doesn't mean much to me. Just watching him in the playoffs and he's been nothing special to me

Screw it. Let's get rid of the cap and max contracts entirely. Let the smart teams rise to the top and the idiot team that offers LeBron or Curry some $1b contract sink to the bottom and go out of business.

How long until every star is willing to take a >35 percent paycut to form a superteam?

Where he was raised lol. Charlotte. The impact it would have on the city would be like when LeBron went back to Cleveland.

That is one thing I like about the Australian NBL points system.

The apply a point ranking to players based on their previous season, so that no matter what salary they agree to, the still account for a certain amount of points towards the team's total allowance.

There are obviously much more details involved, but it is at least a genuine system that creates parity in the league and stops the players being able to manipulate teams by taking cuts, especially when they are making huge endorsement dollars to offset.

If Curry and Durant are willing to give up some $$$ to keep Iggy and Livingston around for another couple of years, they should be able to keep them around for another two years, at least.

That said, McCaw is developing nicely, and will be taking more and more of Livingston & Iggy's minutes as the years pass anyway.

A paycut will be $25+ million a year.

So how do you feel about his defensive stat during that game? Cleveland was 1-12 when he was the primary defender, still not valuable to you?

Getting rid of Klay would be dumb, he is their best perimeter defender and a great shooter. He is also one of the two big four that is already under contract. I have said before, this off season will be the most challenging for the Warriors. If Durant is OK not being a max guy, that could be the difference in bringing somebody like Iggy back. If Curry follows suit, then expect the Warriors to be in the finals for the next two years.
