1984 and 1986 Topps are pretty great sets with the rookies that are in them.

The 1989 Pro Set Football.

I pick this set due to the size of the set and inclusion of many players who otherwise through Topps and Score (and later Fleer and Upper Deck) would never have had a card released.

At 561 cards, with the Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 Final Update, it was a huge set, also including Coaches too. The insert sets celebrating the Super Bowls as well as sports announcers were great additions too... all that was missing were probably photos of the stadiums and the cheerleaders.

The card design was beautiful too, with aesthetic borders and informative card backs on nice card stock, slick but not glossy.

Yes, I know it was over printed and isn't worth much more than the paper it's printed on.

However it's also a great set for fans of the game, regardless of value and includes some key rookie cards including Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, Tim Brown, Deion Sanders, Jerome Bettis, Michael Irwin, Thurman Thomas, Sterling Sharpe, Cris Carter, Dermontti Dawson, and others as well as HOF legends like Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, John Elway, Dan Marino, and others too.

So, that's what makes the set great in my opinion.

97 Legends. Honorable mention to 94 SP Holoview and 58 Topps.

1984 Topps deserves some sort of honorable mention. Agree with '97 Legends, there will never be another set like it.
