My biggest issue is how much losses are looked at due to the fact that it is impossible to balance schedules.

Unless you are going to expand the playoffs, shouldn't it only be teams that provide a realistic or demonstrated ability to win these types of games?

So, if you are going to objectively decide who 11 & 12 are. They should be ND & Texas. By, reasoning and even some dialogue if you consider an expansion to 16 teams :

G5, sorry, unless you are undefeated and demonstrated the ability to beat a team in the playoff picture. You are out.

Tulane, sorry, you already got demolished by Ole Miss. Maybe it will be closer this time, but Kiffin is gone so circumstances have changed. Othewise, I think you really need to expand to 16 teams to find any other way to justify G5 teams.

JMU, sorry. You lost to pretty much the only team with a pulse that you played.

ND. Sure they have the ability but to win in the playoffs but they are 0-2 against those teams so they have not demonstrated it. 1-2 if you give them credit for USC since they are 16 and you had an expanded field.

Texas. 2-2 against playoff teams, 3-2 with Vandy if you are considering an expanded field. So they have clearly demonstrated the ability to win against playoff teams.

BYU. 0-2 and handled easily by a playoff team. 1-2 expanded since Utah top 16.

Vandy. Similar to ND, they have the ability, but facts are 0-2 against top 16.

To amplify the impossibility of balanced schedules I'll use Aggy. Not because they are Texas' rival but they are they perfect example for this. IN NO WAY AM I SAYING THEY ARE NOT A PLAYOFF TEAM!!! They are definitely talented and dangerous. That said, do we really know how good they are? They have 0 wins against playoff teams and would be at 1-1 against top 16. There was no Bama, UGA, Oklahoma, Ole Miss or even Vandy on their schedule.

So, to the detriment of college football, what is the incentive for top tier programs to play anyone of similar stature OOC? Just schedule teams they can beat by 2+ touchdowns and also not have to go on the road because you can pay them to come to your place.

LSU-CLEM was a perfect example. Exciting early season matchup, gets everyone ready for the meat of the season. It ended up both teams sputtered to 7-5. If LSU had ended up becoming a bubble team that win over a 7-5 CLEM would look as great as assumed. So in the end, was the juice worth the squeeze. Probably not, but it sure was much more exciting, as a fan of the sport, than LSU-Tulsa.
Texas had 3 losses. They had to get very lucky to beat 2 teams that lost 7 games each and both games went to overtime. You can argue that Miss St. win was as unbelievably lucky of a win as any team had all year. ND was beating every team like that by 30 points.

It will be irrelevant in a year or 2 when at least 16 teams get in. There will be a decent amount of 3 loss teams in.

I'm glad the crybabies were left out, like a bunch of little kids. It's great!

If the ACC had any brains, they would. Like I said, ND saved the ACC from being the PAC-12. Once ND leaves, the whole house of cards comes crumbling down. BC and Syracuse will be begging Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, JMU and Old Dominion to join so they can get up to 8.

ND just needs to join the BIG10 already. Obviously, staying "independent" is not paying off for them.

It will never happen. Notre Dame begged the the Western Conference (Now the Big 10) to let them in 100 years ago. They tried over and over again. But they conspired to keep the Catholics out.

ND will never get over that. It made them who they now are. And in the business of sport. ND will never give up their exclusive big money TV contract. Or the fact they don't have to share any bowl money with a conference.

If anything, more big national teams should just go independent.

The ACC will be fine with or without Notre Dame. If teams like Clemson, North Carolina, FSU, or Miami leave then it will be a different story.

Plus if they negotiated a spot in the playoffs as long as they are ranked sufficiently, no need to change. They control their schedule in a lot of ways. Make sure you have a great chance at 10 wins and you are good to go.

Notre Dame is a huge part of the reason Clemson and FSU decided to settle their lawsuit against the ACC and stay and Notre Dame leaving will be a huge part of the reason Clemson and FSU leave once they are able to. Clemson has already locked up an annual game with. ND that persists no matter what happens to the conference.

Notre Dame leaving the ACC - even though they’re not a full member - will have the same effect as when USC/UCLA left the PAC-12. All of a sudden, everyone’s looking for lifeboats.

The ND-Clemson agreement is for 12 years (2027-2038 seasons). I think it's great they are doing that. But like anything else, there are ways out of agreements, buyouts, etc. I do hope they keep it and extend it beyond 12 years.

I also hope the ACC stays intact. I am not a fan of all of these megaconferences and if the big boys from the ACC decide to leave, does that mean the SEC and Big 10 will be even bigger or do those schools go independent? Definitely not a fan of the direction things are going with college football in general.

WGAS, I clearly stated I'm ok with Texas being left out and just stated there is a case for them to be in and why.

SEC fans used to say, "winning on the road in the SEC is hard." Ever since Texas and blOU joined, the narrative is changed. Pick one, I don't care which one, but stick with it for all SEC teams.

Besides, every year there are numerous teams with a WTF loss (ND last year) or a few (both they sure got lucky) games.

I opted out of an opportunity today. Somehow, I didn't feel like a champion.
ND can kick rocks. They look more ridiculous with each passing day.

NCAA just needs to put into the CFP that if you want to take part in the CFP you must be part of a conference and no spots will be allowed for a team that is not part of a conference. Force ND to pick a conference and play a real schedule every year that won't pretty much guarantee them at least 9 wins every year.

Setting aside that such a rule probably wouldn’t hold up in a court of law, why should they do that?

The haters keep saying ND should join a conference but they never say why.

The lack of conference affiliation is not what left ND out of the playoffs. They made it last year and, going forward, are guaranteed entry if they are in the top 12. They would lose that if they joined a conference.

If next year played out exactly like this year then #11 ND is in and #10 Miami is out. Just imagine the weeping and wailing from the haters if that happens.

If they were in the ACC they probably win it. In the playoffs. Their own fault

Because they give themselves a built in advantage of scheduling no other school in the country gets to do.

So next year ND is 12-0 but has played zero teams in the top 25 and they don't get a 1st round bye in the CFP because of playing a weak schedule will they complain then that they should be the 1 seed and that schedule does not matter?

LOL
Seen this coming a mile away. If the ACC sucks so bad, and all the teams are weak, why would Georgia not play this series? It’s basically an easy P4 victory, right?
