What I have read is that the stipend would go to every American over the age of 18. That just doesn't make sense to me. Correct me if I'm wrong and if it would be limited to those under a certain income level. That would obviously make much more sense to me.
I'm also inclined to believe there should be some give and take involved. If a person is collecting aid why not make it mandatory that said person has to do some form of community service. Local hospitals, Veteran hospitals, daycare centers ect. all need help.
For the record I don't hate poor people and believe most on any form of assistance desperately need it. I also feel a lot of people abuse assistance programs. My thoughts are that if we could boot the abusers we could easily give those who are in need more assistance. Hence lifting them out of poverty rather than just float in poverty.
Lastly, I'm not a big government person and have little faith in most government run programs being ran efficiently.

The numbers are big for sure, I think that's part of the reason some people might dismiss it as a crazy idea. You're correct about the proposed stipend being for everyone over 18 and not just people that fall below a certain earning threshold. I think part of this is because it's a dividend earned by every American for being a part of this prosperous country. If everyone is receiving it, you won't have people upset that they didn't make the cut or trying to remove other people's benefits. Obviously Bill Gates doesn't need $1k a month, perhaps there would be an opt out or donation feature for those that felt it wouldn't be helpful in their individual lives. Anyone spending $10k a month in consumer products would be putting more in via VAT they they'd be taking out anyway.

As far as being some give and take, the idea is that this will allow people to do some of those things you mentioned such as helping their communities. It also values the time of people like stay at home mothers raising their children or people caring for elderly parents. Alaska already has a similar program, except it's around $2000 a year instead of $1000 a month, funded by the oil companies. I'm not a believer in the government to run things efficiently myself, but if you have the right plan in place it would work. I won't go into why it's going to be a necessity, but we'll eventually reach the point that it will be. I understand the hesitation, especially if you're lived your entire life with things being done a certain way. I think it's possible event like what's happening right now help shift our views a bit on modern work and society.

I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm just trying to give you a bit more info to better inform your opinion on it.

You can't count Maryland. While we have a Republican Governor (who has slid more left over his years in office), the entire State Legislature and the majority of constituents packed into the 5 largest counties are all Democrats. The is the same reason more Maryland counties voted for Trump, but Maryland's Electoral College Votes went to Hillary thanks to the large populations in Baltimore, Pring George, Montgomery, and Charles county.

He is, undoubtedly, MY President. I don’t like it due to his racist rhetoric, his lies, his inability to lead, and his acceptance of foreign help to win the highest and greatest position in the world but he is still MY President.

Hopefully, things will change in November for a better change in January.
