Open Source Sports Card Database - Any interest?
I'd like to gauge interest in an open source sports card database. Sure, Beckett pretty much has the market cornered and you can peruse their data, but they charge a lot of money to be able to do anything with that data. Tuff Stuff was around for awhile, but they seem to have fallen into the abyss. What I'm proposing is a card database that is updated by the community and can be licensed and used by anyone (for free). Seeing as we may not have to reinvent the wheel if previous years' data exists elsewhere, it would be up to the community to add new sets/descriptions/etc... going forward. I could even see tying sales and analytics into the mix for instant market analysis and, possibly, a marketplace. This is a lot of work for one person, but if several members of the community donated time to the cause, I would volunteer my time doing programming (I've been developing software/databases for 10+ years and I ran a card shop a few years back). Thoughts? Questions?
