Topps Chrome is going to be big. If you can get a Red Refractor /5 or a Superfractor of your player, get it, because it'll matter.

Gold Refractors /50 will still be good, but you'll always be able to find one, unlike Prizm Golds /10.

But a lot of what they seem to do it multiple variations of set, and I just don't care about it. Topps, Topps Chrome, Topps Chrome Cosmic, Topps Chrome Ben Baller, Topps Chrome Sapphire. It ends up all just being 'stuff' and I just want the source.
I think it all depends if they continue those variants for basketball.

But it's not like Panini hasn't employed the same tactics, it's just that they've done it across so many of their other chromium lines (t-mall, monopoly, hps, hoops chrome...I could go on and on).

Ultimately, Topps will take over and people will go back to loving them. The same reservations were had about Panini when Topps lost its license in the late 2000's. When your only other alternative is Leaf, then its a foregone conclusion.

95% of clecters don't care much about Golds or grail hoarding. And that's these company's primary demographic, because their money is what keeps the lights on.

Besides, at the end of the day the actual players themselves are the primary determinant of demand. As is easily witnessed by the stark contrast in demand in wax and release pricing between this and last years' draft.

Slemby could have been a Leaf exclusive and had Hong Kong CEO's scrambling for their Amex pins. Good players will always bring the moolah, regardless of who has the exclusive license.

Somethin' like a cross between Teddy Aguhob and Kaboom Mystery Packs. I got that Givenchy denim flow.
