CGC is basically a pre-grading service. It's an affordable and quicker way to have someone take a look at your card and give you a better idea of whether or not it has a chance at a PSA 10. Much better than just blindly sending cards to PSA and waiting three months.
PSA needs to really fix their pricing and turnaround times. If they could at least fix their turnaround times I could probably overlook some of the pricing. PSA needs to open up more grading hubs across the country. I've been saying it forever and I will die on that hill.
