Here are the pros of opening a box vs a bunch of random packs
1) a box is cheaper than opening the same number of random packs
2) you are guaranteed whatever hits are guaranteed for that box
Personally I buy by the pack more than I do actual boxes because my best hits seem to come when I buy random packs
