Default Does a scanner always change the appearance of ink?

I don't own one so can't test the idea.

A lot of times I see an autograph card where the ink seems lighter than other copies of the same card but not sure sometimes if that is due to it being a scan instead of photo.

Does a scanner always lighten the ink?
