That would be cool if ESPN added him to fantasy. Prob too much work to add him to the database.

Don't worry, this guy has you covered:

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...obalID=EBAY-US

I'm guessing Australians aren't as familiar with card brands here yet? Guy should print a variation and auction that now

Actually we know quite a bit about NFL cards. Hayne has had Rugby League cards since 2007 here including an autographed version.

Can't wait to see him on some official cards....no doubt a lot of Australians will be chasing them.

Was more leaning toward the fact that this was probably printed at someone's house, isn't an official brand like Chrome and it sold for $300.

This guy looked liked he belonged in the preseason. I have a funny feeling his cards will explode when they hit the market, think Jeremy Lin madness but with football.

I'm pumped. Since I now don't have a current 49er jersey (Willis, A Smith, Gore, J Smith all done) I'm getting one of Hayne.

Anyone else play rugby before? I played in college after playing football in high school. Rugby has many parallels so it's no surprising to see someone make the switch.

It should be noted Hayne played Rugby League which is vastly different than Rugby Union which most people refer to as just Rugby.

You don't know how much it annoys us that you guys keep calling it rugby. I'm a league fan, played and followed it since I was 4 years old, and it just grates on me when it is called rugby. You will find most rugby league followers will hate the Ra Ra's (rugby union), and vice versa. Rugby league is generally regarded as the working class game, and rugby union the upper class game. Jarryd is from rugby league!!!!!

For card values, I'm not sure if he's investment worthy for the long term. He's a great Rugby player and the story of his transition is actually quite remarkable, so all value is going to be driven by him as a personality coupled by his success.

He's many years removed from his prime since he's been playing Rugby since 2007, and he's not formally trained in the sport of American Football, playing deep within the depth chart on a professional team, warming their bench or in the less than glamorous special teams role.

I doubt if he'll be a HOF'er, might gain a starting position on the 49ers (possibly due to injury opportunity) or another team, but doubtful if he'll lead the league statistically nor have a career of longevity.

But, beyond the stats, as a fan, he's probably more exciting and memorable to collect than the majority of the rookie prospects coming out every year who don't live up to expectation or are solid middle of the pack players who become forgotten within the hobby a few years into their career but are/were still good players (like Eddie Royal, Dwayne Bowe, Carson Palmer, Reggie Bush, etc.).

The one thing I see a lot on eBay (especially with him since there's not any legit NFL licensed cards made yet) are those "custom cards" sold with a seemingly intent to confuse (even tho most have removed the 49ers team logos to avoid legal issues), since they're unlicensed and far from "fan art" infringing upon licensees in the name of profiteering based on the auction starting prices / asking prices, where sellers seem to hope a collector may think that card has any legitimacy as a collectible. I don't mind seeing custom cards, they're fun, but once they start entering the marketplace like the old "borders" cards of the late 80's and 90's where they're priced and marketed as a collectible, I kind of get a negative impression that unfortunately extends to the category as a whole, taking the fun and fandom away.

I think you'll find most of these custom cards are probably getting purchased by the hardcore team and player collectors in Australia. They are absolutely obsessed with having every card ever made of that player/team. Since we only have a couple of different releases each year, it's not ridiculously difficult to keep these collections complete. Their obsession is just crazy, and something I just can't fathom, but I'll bet that's why the 1/1 custom garbage went for $300+.

I don't think anyone here is expecting him to be the next Barry sanders, but his cards will sell and hold value, no matter how good/long a career he has, due to a whole country of collectors targeting one player. This happened when Marcos Ambrose first won at Watkins Glen, and all his cards suddenly became collectable to Australians.

And it is RUGBY LEAGUE, not rugby!!!!!!

Just a question,
Because Jarryd played pro football in Australia, does he qualify as a Rookie ?
