Not high at all. If he posts a 4-4.50 ERA I'm good. Excited for his first home start. Going to be a hell of a moment.

If everything goes perfect with Jobe's rehab he's probably not back till August. He'll just be a bullpen piece if he makes it back this season I'd guess.

They don't have much depth in the farm for starters. Olson's had quite a few injuries now and Jobe has never thrown 100 innings in a year.

I don't know who fills the void if/when someone in this rotation gets injured during the season or is flat out trash besides Montero.

Skubal
Valdez
Verlander
Flaherty
Mize
Anderson
Melton
Montero
Gipson-Long

I'm seeing plenty of depth.

Only the Dodgers have non 'trash' extreme depth in starting pitching. That guy literally finds everything to complain about. We're a shoe in for the division at this point. He's nit picking who the potential 8th starting pitcher is.

Sell me your Troy Meltons as you discuss and argue that we need an offense, not just more, but an offense. Pitching is not going to win us enough games.

The offense was pretty great for 4 months out of 6 last year. There's enough reason to believe the eventual addition of McGongile, Gleyber not dealing with a hernia, continued improvements from Keith/Greene and Carpenter not being quite so meh is enough.

I've not been playing close attention, but does Max Clark have an "ego" issue? https://youtu.be/UBbcyK_GDv0?si=1Hj1rfE1LVNid6tw

Never heard of him having any makeup issues, so I'm going with no.

He's a natural center fielder who had a bad spring training game in left field, though.

He's a 21 year old kid that likes nice things, and he has a huge online following. Don't most pro athletes have a healthy ego? Don't they have to?

Easy. I just am asking cause this was the impression given in the video and comments. So I am asking those who would know better.

I thought that odd also when I saw him coming in the flyball from LF.

I am curious how the everyday starting lineup will look like. Well, whatever close to everyday is with Hinch. Specifically with Keith. Where is going to fit in? Tork, Gleyber on the right side of the infield. Do they keep Baez in center so McGongile plays SS? Can Keith play 3rd? I would like to see Carp just become a full time DH, but Keith may end up spending a lot of time there as well. Is Vierling in the mix again? Things work out better if Keith can settle in at 3rd. I think that opens things up to keep bats in the lineup and use the DH as off days.

I think Meadows gets another shot at sticking in center. Maybe with a platoon with Baez, though I think Baez probably starts the year at SS and they keep McGonigle in the minors to start the season.

Meadows is absolutely getting every chance this year to prove himself. It's a make or break season for him though with Clark breathing down his neck. Baez is likely a super utility guy at this point, but he'll probably keep SS warm until they call up McGonigle.

You guys are probably right. Meadows will start the season. I just expect him to be gone after the first month. He can't hit. I guess McGonigle is dependent on he does in spring training. I would love to see him and Clark make the roster. Let's get all the rookie mistakes out of the way now so they are rolling and comfortable for the playoff push.

In other news, Melton sidelined with "elbow soreness" . Boo!!! We all know what these leads to. I don't want to manifest it.

Sadly, a rite of passage for every Detroit pitcher at this point.

I don't see the point of giving Meadows another shot. Start Javy in center and keep Meadows as an emergency option for now.

McGonigle is picking up right where he left off last season. If he continues to hit throughout the spring, he should be starting at short on opening day. Short was a black hole last season; no reason to let these other bums play over him. If he struggles out of the gate, they can always send him down to get his mind right.

Most ‘on the bubble’ would be Jung maybe?

Can Julks or Slater play Center? (later this year)

Define on the bubble? Making the roster? Or you mean getting DFA'd?

One or other. Infield a bit competitive right now, a good problem to have.

Jung likely to be optioned to minors. He is not in any risk of being DFA'd as he has options left. I find it interesting that they are asking him to learn 1B. Might be a sign that the Tigers view him as a potential super-utility type.

Officially on McGonigle watch. Homer, single and a walk tonight. Now 8-19 with 3 walks in 22 plate appearances.

Making it awfully difficult on the organization thus far.

If the team is serious about winning, he’ll be starting game 1 of the season. Need to get Parker Meadows out of there and have Javy play centerfield. For whatever anyone thinks about Javy’s hitting, it is a lot better than Meadows.

Then K-Mac plays short.
