I'm not getting "mello" vibes from this post.

I hope one day Panini and Topps just grade every card themselves and put them into packs. Would stop most of the whining. But then people would still complain because their graded case had a scratch on it and want to see if Panini would replace it.

I know some like to pile on the buyer, but at the end of the day the seller has the card and it's on them to describe any noticeable flaws. This is obviously a flaw that affects the value, graded or not, and should have been noted. Mistakes happen and I think most sellers would be willing to work to make it right either with a return or partial refund.

Maybe the guy thought he might be overreacting and wanted to get a reality check? You're right, he's justified to do a return. I don't see the harm in him asking if he's off-base or if the seller's vague description would prevent his claim from winning. |

Pretty sure most that make these threads know the answer and usually already made up their mind on returning it. I think they just want to feel better by people agreeing with them.

No doubt, I'd spend a few hundred words writing about it.
Then get back to finishing that stack of comment cards I've been saving for a rainy day.

Honestly, I have trashed cards before immediately on pull just because I saw a scratch, dinged corner, whitening on edges, etc.
As for purchases on eBay, usually I just move on. Same mentality, not worth the hassle of communicating with seller for a refund. If I buy anything extremely expensive, I will probably only buy graded. From my experience, most raw cards are always a risk. Last edited by ThePatriotWay; 03-07-2021 at 12:32 AM. |

LOL, a card described as "Mint" that has an indent in it and all these great eBay sellers here are blaming the buyer for not accepting it....GTFO...
As the buyer, it's up to you....surface damage is tough to see thru pictures. Your best bet is to simply ask the question...any surface damage? Most of the time I get no answer, which tells me there is. I believe a few times I got blocked by a seller for asking that...which is fine by me. F*ck them. Someone posted a Tatis Finest Flashback Refractor with an indent on the back...but they were honest....I gladly paid $200 for it as I needed it for my set and it wasn't on the front surface.

I think some people take condition way too seriously with ungraded cards.
If you care about incredibly minor dings and surface defects that can only be seen when viewed under very specific lighting, then buy graded. (Which is also why grading companies have to be held accountable.) But if I'm buying a raw card off eBay, I by no means expect a seller to have gone over the card with a jewelers loupe and essentially pre-graded the card for me. As long as it doesn't arrive bent or with obvious defects, I'm happy and I add it to my collection. I'm sure most of us, when we busted packs, would toss the decent cards that we weren't going to keep into top loaders, snapped a few pics, and listed them on eBay. If there was a small roller line or a dimple somewhere on the back, no one was asking for a refund because "straight from pack to top loader" is about as much as any reasonable person can expect when buying ungraded cards. This whole expectation of raw cards arriving in PSA 10 condition is killing the hobby vibe. (Just adding my data point to this survey. Others feel differently and that's cool. But I think it's important for those of us who buy cards with reasonable expectations of condition to be heard also.) |

This is the only reason these threads exist. Its guilt and a desperate need for affirmation

If the seller has good feedback I would at least talk to them first. They probably didn't notice if they have good feedback. They might give you a discount at least if you want to keep the card.

Unless the seller is claiming to be a professional grader and you paid him for the grading duty, I'd say you got what you paid for. I've seen Beckett miss wrinkles on cards and call them NM. It happens, especially on the backs.
I'd side with the seller here and this is just part of buying raw. Out of curiosity, what is this card worth raw mint? |

This thread is great because this is probably a 6-7 surface grade, and everyone is giving the seller a pass and the buyer a hard time.
If this was an undisclosed corners issue instead of an undisclosed surface issue (6-7 equivalent, a strong corner ding), everyone would be siding with the buyer. Good times. |

Threads like this are why I will also never sell ungraded cards on eBay ever. A card like that, I’d buy to have it in my collection and not look at it that closely. If I was buying it as an investment then I’d be buying a graded card. I don’t want the hassle of sending it off and waiting for it to come back, only to get a crappy grade. I feel like a few years ago, that scratch wouldn’t even be noticed by 99% of us.

For OPs concern I would say you bought it raw off eBay, the pictures werent hiding anything so should stay as a sold as is item. Sucks but if you bought it with intentions of grading it... Probably should've bought it graded already then.
