People aren't dying from the illness?

He likened the circumstances to his own family - no one in his family has died or is facing economic hardship.

He "gets it," though.

Curious what you did think was wrong about what he said?

True. But do you have to be in financial straights to understand that it's a problem? If so, I guess this whole situation is a issue between the haves and have nots, correct?

Who pays this hazard pay? The businesses who employ them? Federal Government which means increased taxes or debt?

And for how long do these people get paid? DO they get paid once the WHO or CDC declares the pandemic is over? Do they get paid extra for every virus that comes out? Full scale trauma events?
Hospital workers/emergency services who are in direct and daily contact with infected patients multiple times a day.

No to anything not bolded - fire fighters is subjective.

State governments.

As long as the CDC says there's a pandemic in the US.

How long are they paid? As long as they have a job?
If it's a pandemic by the CDC, yes

Nurses normally don't... It depends on the level of care, staffing, patients, etc

It seems like we have both TDS and CDS in this thread now. The virus is spreading.

Will be a long time before hand sanitizer comes back to shelves.

One of the Targets here in Napa, CA has pretty much been out of paper products for at least a month. I haven't need to buy any personally yet, but keep l looking cause the office stock is getting low. Pretty soon it will be BYOTP, or use the blue room.

A couple weeks ago when I didn't look for it, the guy in front of me checking out had two small packs of TP but they had a limit of one. He handed me the second one, and I ended up taking that to work.

I told my mom if i get low at home, she'll have to go to the early geezer hour at Safeway to get me some. She had to do that for herself a couple weeks ago.

Targets and Walmart have been out of TP and paper towels around me for a month. The main grocery store chain is the same. Found TP last week at a Mom and Pop store I never go to. Try that, small stores have different suppliers.

There are going to be a lot more "have nots" soon. The "haves" are going to need to find a way to deal with them more effectively than our Governor's "let them eat cake/get an essential job" routine.

The callous attitude toward ANY OTHER KIND OF SUFFERING than that induced by the virus, was quite breathtaking.

Domestic violence? Ah, suck it up ladies and kids, at least you're not dead!

No more money? Hey, you'll get your measly checks in a couple days?

Lost your home? Well, YOU'RE NOT DEAD.

Just the weakest kind of argument spewed forth from a truly awful human being.

I'm flummoxed that anyone could find his behavior today defensible.

Even regional chain stores are better supplied than Target or Walmart. Walmart shelves are empty near me, but the grocery store has plenty to go around.

I will say, I have been critical on Tim Walz using his model that still feels so out of touch, but he has done some great things in Minnesota as well. Today he announced a "testing breakthrough" that will allow Minnesota to test up to 20,000 people a day. So that could be a good thing OR it could be a bad thing in terms of how long this lockdown lasts. I'm not sure, but he said previously that he wouldn't re-open the economy unless we had the ability to test 5,000 people per day. Well, we have surpassed that amount by a lot now, so hopefully its a step in the right direction to re-open the state sooner rather than later.

20k a day, holy hell, that's great news. Did he offer details on what that was?

If I am being 100% honest, I was driving home from work after a 16 hour shift and was listening on the radio, but as soon as I got home, I turned it off. I just wanted to get back home after so many hours at work. But if Minnesota is capable of 20k tests a day, other states should 100% be able to replicate that. I guess having the Mayo Clinic within our state helps, however.

I just fear that due to us being able to test so many people, Walz is going to use that as a "see, look how bad it is" type thing and keep us lockdown longer.

The message could have definitely been articulated a bit more.. well ...articulately. The main thought he was trying to get across is what I agree with. At last count we're at what, 45000 dead from the virus. How many are dead from being out of work? Could that change at some point in time? Sure, and if we go for too long like this it is certain.

Yea, I'm sure the Mayo clinic is huge.

Here in Colorado, we've averaged 1500 tests a day for the last month. Pathetic and sad.

Seroprevalence study in Geneva: 5.5% of the population infected with #SARS-CoV-2. Translates into 27’000 cases, roughly 6 times more than officially announced.

If representative of Switzerland, we’ve missed 5 out 6 cases, with an IFR just below 1.

45,000 dead from something. From what exactly nobody knows when everybody that dies gets listed as Covid-19.

45,000 people have died from the virus and illnesses exacerbated by the virus. Better?

On a different note. What do you think about Cuomo letting regions make their own choices about opening up? I don't know how this could work as people in shut down areas will just go to places that are open. It would be wonderful if we could get it to work though.
