Capetown, Beautiful set!
My attention was quickly drawn to the Walter Johnson.

Shanks, It's just a waiting game.

How long did it take to put together???

In other news, Harry Hooper is still haunting me. I picked up a Joe Jackson for a decent price but still no Hooper!!!

Shanks it took 3 years of daily checking ebay... for the Walter Johnson card. I pulled the Gehrig card and started building the set about a week after the product came out. The Johnson card was the difficult one.

Thanks GUCD, not as many Hall of Famers as in your collection, but I immediately fell in love with the set and just had to complete it. The Johnson was the one that was most difficult to acquire. I had a few friends looking at shows etc trying to find one. Finally this one popped up on ebay.

That's awesome. I don't think I've ever seen a Walter for sale. That's years and years of checking.

I need a Mathewson as well. At least there's always 2-3 for sale at any given time for $300 or so...

The card design has a very clean classic look to it. I've never seen a WJ available, but I probably couldn't afford it if I did. Congrats again on a beautiful HOF collection.

Far too rich for my blood at even half the price, but still an awesome grail that never shows up. If you don't want to click the ebay link or it's not allowed it's 2012 Panini NT Walter Johnson game-used ball card 1/1.

I agree! Great thread and great cards. In a hobby that has been inundated with tons of relic cards that are pushed out monthly, it is neat to see these cards that house actual historical relics.

Glad I stumbled on this thread last night - great collection. I've been putting together a set over the last year or so. Great thread for inspiration and a checklist

Thank you! It was elusive for many years. I’ve owned one other one that I bought raw. Turns out someone tried to recolor the black corners with a Sharpie; no joke.

I was happy to find an already slabbed one to make sure it at least passed the most basic of checks.

$676 is a strong sale for a raw copy.

Wait what? Did you buy the Mathewson jersey that I was referencing that just ended????

If so, congrats! It's a beautiful card and I'm super jealous. I was bidding but got out at roughly half of what it ended at.

Nooo, no I did not buy that one. I forgot to quote your first reply, that’s all.

Happy with my PSA copy. I bought a raw copy a few years back that had a problem, just hoping the one that sold last night wasn’t also retouched with a Sharpie.

Glad I saw this thread - there are some absolutely amazing cards in here… I’ll have to hunt down some of these Ruth and Gehrig cards when I get a chance. Here’s three of my favorites that I own:
