That's why I loved the old Playoff/Donruss and the old Leaf days when they would show what jersey they used for the cards and even would show their vault of game-used material they use. Those days are long gone in the hobby.

The wording on the back is generic for a reason. That way, the card makers do not have to change the type set on every single card for every single player. The enclosed Game Used material is guaranteed by Panini. The same thing is stamped on all cards. Change "Game Used" for "Player Worn" on the rest. It would cost them more money, time and effort than it is worth to have to change the back of every single card to read which game, the name of the player, the type of material and whatever else you want in a guarantee to make you sleep better at night. There are things such as implied consumer laws. You cant enter a contest for a new car, with a 2019 Rolls Royce on the pamphlet, and find out you can really only win a 1999 used Subaru. A car is a car right? Wrong. For the same reason, they are not allowed to put a picture, and name, of Tom Brady on a card, and insert a random players auto or jersey swatch. The old Playoff card company got around that by using random team jerseys, but put them in checklist cards and called the set "Team Threads" to avoid confusion. If you think otherwise, you are nuts. Why player worn? Why not! We keep buying it. As long as we demand "Sick Mojo" patches in every damn card, this is where they come from in bulk. A Player is sent their cards/stickers to sign, along with a box of jerseys to wear for Vets. This is how they get their player worn, outside of the Rookie Premiere. They are bulk buys. They do not run out to the store and buy a new one. They have a deal with the NFL to supply jerseys, and they ship those off to players. Do they wear them? Who knows. And it doesn't really matter much. But they do have to sign a letter stating they "wore" it. Since Panini doesn't know who the next big star will be, they slap the name "Rookie" on the back with number 88 (for more patches), and have everyone at the Premiere wear dozens of them. That way, if someone becomes a star, they have cases of their "Player Worn" jerseys to use for years. That is what they have been doing with Russell Wilson and Luck ones. If a player ends up sucking, they then can use the same "worn" stock on the next player at the event to wear, and then use those for years if they are good, or recycle ones more if they end up sucking. Buck Allen sucks? Take his pile from stock and have Lamar Jackson wear them next. It is not a lie to say each player wore them. And it saves Panini money, money I'm sure they pass on as tremendous savings in product to us consumers! |
